VALLEY Misses Vine Too

It’s been almost a year and a half since Vine, the mobile app with which users could post six-second videos for others to view and share, was shut down. It’s safe to say that many of its former users are still reeling from the loss. Our VALLEY staff and fellow Penn State students are all definitely feeling the pain from the lack of Vine in our lives, and with the delay of V2, the follow-up to Vine, we decided that it’s the perfect time to reminisce on some of our favorite vines.

Although technically not an actual vine, Kaitlyn Amaro, a junior studying marketing, says that her favorite vine video is the ABCs of vine, which is a compilation of different vines for each letter of the alphabet.

“It’s all of my favorite vines put to the alphabet song, what could be better than that?” Amaro says.

Many people have multiple favorite vines or share the same favorite vine as others.

Kylee McGuigan, a junior who studies journalism and is a print writer for VALLEY, loves both the “I could’ve dropped my croissant” vine and the “country boy, I love you” vine.

Both Jenna Pelowitz, a junior advertising major and VALLEY print writer, and Lauren Dempsey, also a junior majoring in advertising, love the “road work ahead, uh yeah I sure hope it does” vine by Drew Gooden. It’s such a simple vine but is actually very clever.

Katie O’Reilly, a junior studying journalism and writer for VALLEY, chose the “come get y’all juice” vine as her personal favorite.

Caroline Gonzalez, a sophomore majoring in public relations, says that her favorite vine is “back at it again at Krispy Kreme.”

Lucy McKeever, a junior majoring in public relations and a print writer, chose the “give me my hat back, Jordan” vine by Evan Breen as her personal favorite.

She says, “I love Evan Breen’s vines in general; they’re just my sense of humor and off-beat and random in the best way.”

Caroline Sorrentino, a junior studying public relations and a member of VALLEY’s business staff, loves the “that’s my opinion” vine the most.

Tori Rooney, a senior majoring in print and digital journalism and a print writer, chose the “it’s an avocado…thenks” vine as her absolute favorite, which is an absolute gem of a vine.

If you’re in the mood to watch most of these videos at once, and more, then you absolutely need to check out the vine compilation “vines that butter my croissant.” Both Rose McDaid, a sophomore majoring in kinesiology, and Bella Speer, a junior majoring in middle level math education, chose this vine compilation as their favorite.

Rose says, “This vine compilation is a perfect mix of well known iconic vines, old school classics, and some under-appreciated gems that continue to keep me laughing even in these dark, vineless times.”

VALLEY hopes that you enjoyed watching all of these vines and laughed as much as we did! Sometimes it’s great to just relax and watch a few six-second comedy videos and realize that things don’t always have to be so serious all the time.

If you want to share your own favorite Vine videos and compilations, tag @VALLEYmag on Twitter! We’d love to hear from you!
