Is Taylor Swift Rebranding?

We’re all wondering the same question—what’s the deal with Taylor Swift? Taylor debuted a music video for her new song “Look What You Made Me Do” during the MTV Video Music Awards, and while it was entertaining it was also extremely suspicious.

Throughout the music video, Taylor mocks herself and seems to try and own the criticism she has received from the public and other celebrities, specifically Kim Kardashian. She makes fun of herself for being the “victim” and “wanting to be excluded from this narrative.”

In 2016, when Kanye mentioned Taylor in his song “Famous,” Taylor expressed that she was offended and had not agreed to be in the song. After Kim Kardashian exposed Taylor Swift over Snapchat for being a snake and that Taylor actually gave Kanye permission to use her name, Taylor took a hiatus on social media and went out of the public eye. “Look What You Made Me Do” is the first we’ve really heard from Taylor since this whole conflict.

“Look What You Made Me Do” portrays Taylor as a bad girl with a car crash, a bath full of diamonds, and of course the infamous snake reference. She’s now going along with the idea she’s a “snake.” So the real question is—is Taylor Swift rebranding herself to bad girl? But was she ever really a good girl?

Celebrities rebrand themselves all the time; we’ve seen it with Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, and the Kardashians. And Taylor Swift is no stranger to it. She’s taken her career from country to pop while remaining as one of the most successful artists. Taylor is known for her #squadgoals and being friends with high profile celebrities and up and coming artists.

But, this pop star has always had a little bit of a mean streak. She has had drawn-out feuds with several celebrities including the Kardashians, Kanye and Katy Perry — just to name a few. But lets not also forget that a lot of her songs are about someone who wronged her including John Mayer in “Dear John,” Jake Gyllenhaal in “We Are Never Getting Back Together,” and Harry Styles in “Style.” The list goes on and on. This girl has a talent for exploiting ex-boyfriends.

However, in her new music video, it appears as though Taylor is taking on a sexier persona. Is this image going to stick? Is this just her way of accepting the criticism and making a comeback? We’ll have to wait and see what her next move is and if she continues to take on this new, unexpected risky image.
