Healthy Eats to Scare Away the Halloween Treats

With Halloween right around the corner, it’s officially time to get spooky in the kitchen. The celebration of tricks and treats can unfortunately mask the unhealthy foods sneaking their way into your body, making it even harder to stay healthy this season. Helping you eat clean and still indulge in the Halloween fun, VALLEY has pulled together our favorite easy and nutritious recipes for this spooky season.

Halloween Apple Mouths
What You’ll Need
  • 1 apple
  • 1-2 tablespoons of your choice nut butter
  • Handful of yogurt covered raisins or to make this recipe vegan, substitute the yogurt covered raisins for sliced almonds.
What You’ll Do
  1. Quarter the apple, removing the core.
  2. Wedge out the middle of 1 quarter, creating the mouth.
  3. Fill the inside of the wedged gap with your choice of nut butter.
  4. Place the yogurt covered raisins in the nut butter, creating the teeth.
  5. Enjoy your silly apple bites!
Candy Corn Parfait
What You’ll Need
  • 1 sliced pineapple
  • 1 sliced cantaloupe
  • 3-5 tablespoons of your choice vanilla yogurt
What You’ll Do
  1. Fill ⅓ of a mason jar with sliced pineapple.
  2. Add slices of cantaloupe over the pineapple slices, filling the jar 2/3 of the way.
  3. Top the parfait off with 3-5 tablespoons your choice of vanilla yogurt.
  4. Dive into your healthy candy corn themed parfait.
  5. If pineapple and cantaloupe aren’t your favorite fruits, try mangoes for the yellow layer and mandarins or apricots for the orange layer!
Pretzel and Cheese Broomsticks
What You’ll Need
  • 3 pretzel sticks
  • 1 cheese string
  • 3 chives
What You’ll Do
  1. Cut the string cheese into thirds.
  2. With each third, separate the cheese into small strands, making it look like a broomstick.
  3. Poke the pretzel stick into the top of the cheese string.
  4. To hold everything together, tie a chive around the cheese and enjoy!
  5. To make the recipe gluten-free, pick up Snyder’s or Glutino’s gluten free pretzel sticks.
A Ghoulish Smoothie
What You’ll Need
  • 1 peeled orange
  • 1 peeled banana
  • 5-6 strawberries
  • 2 cups of spinach
  • ½ cup yogurt of your choice
  • 1 cup of ice
What You’ll Do
  1. Blend together the orange, banana, strawberries and spinach until smooth.
  2. Add ½ cup of yogurt and ice into the mixture.
  3. Blend together and enjoy!
Ghostly Boonana Pops
What You’ll Need
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of unmelted white chocolate
  • Handful of mini chocolate chips
  • 4 popsicle sticks
What You’ll Do
  1. Cut the banana in half and then in half again, creating 4 quarter slices total.
  2. Insert 1 popsicle stick into each banana slice.
  3. Place the banana slices in the freezer for approximately 2 hours on a non-stick cookie sheet.
  4. When frozen, melt the white chocolate in a bowl and dip each banana slice in the mix.
  5. Add mini chocolate chips for eyes and place back in the freezer until frozen.
  6. Take out your healthy popsicles and enjoy!
