The Return of Firefly

After a long stretch of music lovers waiting and waiting for concerts to come back, music festivals and shows have finally slowly begun to happen again. Although it is unsure for how long they will be happening, fans are buying as many tickets as they can before they could all be canceled again. Shows like Rolling Loud, Outside Lands, Governor’s Ball and tons of other different tours are happening. One specific festival happened not too far from Happy Valley: Firefly Festival in Dover, Delaware.

Firefly had big names including: Billie Eilish, The Killers, Tame Impala, Lizzo and more. Other supporting acts that also have an expansive following are: Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, Cage The Elephant, Wiz Khalifa, Megan Thee Stallion, Machine Gun Kelly, Diplo and more.

They typically include a large number of different genres, which therefore brings in a diverse audience. This includes EDM, pop, rock, indie and alternative. The festival is in the Dover International Speedway, so there is also a ton of space for all different kinds of shows to happen. There are five different stages with shows going on all at once, starting at noon and ending at 2 a.m..

Boochie Post, a 20-year-old third-year with a major in philosophy, is excited to be able to see live music again after so long.

“I feel like I really enjoy music festivals and concerts because they are sort of an escape from a normal routine,” Post said. They also invoke such a surreal feeling because you are finally seeing your idols in person for the first time, which is so special and irreplaceable. I have listened to Tame Impala since middle school, so I am really excited to get away from the norm that has been brought on by the pandemic and see this band that has been a staple of my adolescence.”

The festival also has a ton of different recreation and food options to keep the visitors entertained. There are a variety of different food trucks and you’ll even spot a barbecue and drag brunch. Various vendors, yoga and a silent disco where people can dance and listen to their own choice of music in headphones were also available for those in attendance.
