The Ordinary: The Good and the Bad

The Ordinary has been identified as a favorite brand of skincare fanatics. However, according to the skincare gurus of YouTube, not every product is perfection. The Ordinary is an affordable skincare line from DECIEM that prides itself on being able to offer quality skincare to the average person. The honorable pricing and transparency of ingredients are what separates this skincare line from other brands. Still, apparently not every product hits the mark. VALLEY has compiled a list of skincare YouTubers’ favorite and least favorite products from The Ordinary so you don’t have to.

Niacinamide 10% + Zinc

The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc formula is a cult favorite amongst skincare specialists. One of YouTube’s most popular skincare specialists, @Hyram, says the product is his favorite version of a niacinamide serum. Hyram says that the formula helps reduce oiliness, sebum production and redness in the skin. For those of you who struggle with acne, Hyram highly suggests this product.

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

Beauty and skincare YouTuber, James Welsh, has a bold stance on not only The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B% serum, but against the use of a hyaluronic acid serum in general. Welsh says that hyaluronic acid is already included in every other skincare product, so a separate serum of the formula is an unnecessary addition to your skincare routine. Since you are probably getting your daily dose of hyaluronic acid from other products, you may want to skip the purchase on this one.

AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution

Beauty vlogger, Sasha Colina, dedicated an entire YouTube video to what she considers are the best products The Ordinary has to offer. One of her favorite formulas is the AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. The product is an exfoliant that is used to remove the dead skin cells from your face. Colina says that you will notice a difference in your skin after just one use. She also notes that the product creates a brighter and more even facial tone. For those who have acne scarring this product may be worth the purchase.

Squalane Cleanser

Beauty YouTuber, @saaammage, is less than impressed by The Ordinary’s Squalane Cleanser. The YouTuber says she is dissatisfied with the consistency of the cleanser and lack of lather. She also went on to say that the product did not leave her skin feeling clean after using it—which VALLEY agrees is a pretty important factor of a face wash.

Everyone’s skin is different and what works for one person could lack benefit for another. Tweet us, @VALLEYmag, with your opinions on these products.
