Staying Social in the Cold, At a Distance

Socializing with friends has become a hard endeavor recently. Keeping a distance while also having fun has proven to be a lot harder than it sounds. Now that winter is just around the corner, and cold days are here, it’s even harder to find things to do with friends. With that in mind, VALLEY has come up with a few fun things to do in the cold, while also staying safe.

Websters Bookstore and Cafe

It may seem small, but this cozy State College staple is prepared for keeping your distance. While keeping your mask on, you can comb through the mountains of books and music with your friends, and find new things to read or listen to. You can also curl up in a cozy reading chair or at one of their spread-out tables and drink one of their many appointments of teas and coffee.

The Arboretum

Bundle up and grab a cup of hot chocolate for this one. Outside may not be the best place to gather with friends, but equipped with a big coat and something warm to drink, the Arboretum is a great place to go, especially once it starts to snow. Walking through the paths with friends is a great way to destress and spend some time outside.

Take a Quick Road Trip

If you and your friends have cars, taking a drive to some surrounding towns is a great way to explore and stay out of the cold. The neighboring towns have a multitude of fun activities to do. In Boalsburg, about a 10-minute drive from campus, there are a wide array of parks to explore as well as an underground cave that people give tours of. There are also a bunch of little shops to look into. Other towns around State College also have simple fun things to do that most people wouldn’t think of.

Even though there isn’t much to do these days, there are always ways to get creative with your friends while staying socially distant and safe.
