How To Not Get Bored While Running On The Treadmill

Working out can be a drag, literally, it can be when you find your feet dragging on the treadmill after only five minutes due to boredom. Even though running can be one of the best cardio workouts for the body, it can also be one of the most boring ways to get in shape if not spiced up every now and then. No worries fellow runners, Valley has a few tips that can keep you from falling asleep while on the treadmill, so that you can run more than those first five minutes.

Watch TV

Many experts have said that watching television can be a bad distraction to your workout, but when you are dreading going on the treadmill because you know you are going to fall asleep, then watch away. Look at it this way; one good episode of Modern Family is 30 minutes. When watching a full episode of non-stop laughter and crazy shenanigans, your attention would not be so focused on the fact that you are running in place for 30 minutes straight. Instead, you will be enjoying watching the show and hoping that you can get the fabulous body of Sofia Vergara.

Worried about the commercials? Plug in your music and listen to a Beyoncé song (you can’t go wrong with Queen Bey). Listening to a five-minute Beyoncé’s woman-empowered song can boost your energy and have you ready to fight through those boring commercials. With the motivation of the fit and beautiful combination of Sofia Vergara and Beyonce, your body will be more than willing to last through those 30 minutes.

Race someone

If you are a competitive runner then you are the type that does not mind a little push to make you work harder. Have you ever found yourself running a littler harder and longer because the person next to you is super attractive and you want to make a good impression? Take the mentality of showing off to actually kick ass on the treadmill.

When you have that drive to prove to someone else that running on the machine is the norm for you and that you just naturally kick ass, you will start seeing that, “Hey, I actually can last longer than five minutes and my ass looks great while doing it!” We’re not saying that everyone needs someone else to make him or her better, but it does not hurt your ego when you prove to yourself that you can run longer all while impressing that hot person next to you.

Go Home

No but really. If you dread going on the treadmill because you know that in five minutes you are going to stop then just don’t go at all. Yes, the permission to go home is given, but do not just sit down and stuff your face with Doritos (even though we all find that satisfying). Instead opt to run outside. Running outside is better for your body anyways! With the inclines of the sidewalks, your whole body benefits from running outside. Or you can really just go home and eat Doritos, it is OK, I wont tell anyone.

Finding ways to not get bored on the treadmill can be fun and beneficial. Find whatever works for you particular satisfaction and enjoy the most out of it. Just remember that in this case, temporary is good. Switching your workout routine is vital to sticking with and having better results.
