Have you recently noticed all of your favorite books being adapted for TV and movies? Well, it’s not a coincidence. Many know Reese Witherspoon from her archive of iconic roles in movies such as “Legally Blonde”, “Cruel Intentions” and “Sweet Home Alabama.” But her contributions to the cinematic universe don’t end there. What some may not know is just like her character Elle Woods, Witherspoon has beauty and brains. By combining her passion for books and film, Reese Witherspoon created a powerhouse business model that she just cashed in on. But don’t worry, her girl-boss era is just getting started.

By now you’ve probably heard of or been forced to read the title of Witherspoon’s book club. While it may appear to be a well-manicured list of must-reads, to Reese this is just the beginning. Amongst hunting for new books to add to the book club roster, she’s also seeking an important quality— adaptability. Of course, not every book on the list will be making it to the big screen, and not every book with movie magic potential makes its way into the book club either, but Reese makes sure to snag the rights to the ones she sees the most potential in.

This gives dual benefits. First of all, it gives the authors an incredible platform that almost guarantees to make it to the best-sellers list. (What more could you need than Reese Witherspoon’s stamp of approval?) But also provides streaming platforms and production companies alike, with complex and ready-made characters and storylines. Is Witherspoon single-handedly bringing good movies back?

But it’s not over yet for the blonde business mogul. When she sold her company, Hello Sunshine..she kinda sold it to… herself? The company that bought Hello Sunshine for 900 million dollars is currently unnamed though we do know it is being financially backed by BlackStone. And who’s on the board of this new company you may ask? Reese Witherspoon!

While VALLEY aren’t ones to be excited about the rich getting richer, the morals and goals behind the company are something we can get behind. The website says “Hello Sunshine is a media company that puts women at the center of every story we create, celebrate and discover. We tell stories we love–from big to small, funny to complex–all shining a light on where women are now and helping them chart a new path forward.” Turns out our moms truly have been right for yelling “I love her!” at our TV screens every time Witherspoon appears.

VALLEY loves a good girl boss!
