With THON approaching at full speed Feb. 19-21, the importance of a diet that supports sustained energy has never been more important. Luckily, homemade juices are a great way to pack in nutrients and supercharge your dance moves. Move to your own “beet” this weekend with the recipe below!

Even though it may be tempting to grab a premade juice from any vending machine insight, making your own blends at home is so much more rewarding. By investing in an affordable juicing machine, the possibilities of health-boosting drink combinations are endless. Not to mention the ability to control the amount of unnatural sugar and preservative additives.

Although beets typically tend to be associated with Dwight Shrute from The Office, this vibrant root vegetable packs quite a bit of benefit. In fact, studies show that beet juice improves exercise stamina, offers electrolytes and muscle support which is the perfect fuel for the approaching dance marathon. Also, beets provide a plethora of antioxidants that boost immunity which never hurts, especially in a COVID-19 world.

While beets provide a mellow and somewhat earthy flavor in this drink, other ingredients like lemon, apple and kale work to balance out the palette with citrus, sweet and green additions, making the drink not only digestible but delicious. The cleansing elements of lemons mixed with apples aiding in digestion, this beet juice has it all. 

We Got The Beet Recipe:

What You’ll Need
  • 3 average size beets
  • 2 apples (any flavor)
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 handful kale
  • Optional: 
    • 1 ginger root
    • 1 teaspoon chia seeds
    • 1 teaspoon flax seeds
What You’ll Do
  • Wash all ingredients with warm water and produce soap
  • Trim beets 
  • Chop beets, apples, and lemon into pieces that fit into the juicer
  • Add produce into juicer one at a time
  • Strain juice into a cup to remove any unwanted pulp
  • Add optional add-ins to juice for extra health boosts

This juice provides the perfect blend of flavors that can be tweaked to your own taste preference. Feel free to be creative and add in any greens or vegetables of choice for even more flavors and benefits.
