Makeup For Dummies: A Guide To Know

The beauty industry has a hold on not just our appearances but our bank accounts too. Influencers like Kylie Jenner are coming up with new products at insanely fast rates where it can be easy to get lost with the newest trends. It’s even worse when you’re not sure how to use the products, let alone create a cohesive makeup look. VALLEY believes that everyone deserves an opportunity to know the basics of beauty.

Effortless Eyes

The area around the eyes is the perfect spot to show off your creativity. There are countless eyeliners, mascaras and eyeshadows waiting for you to use them. But first, a quick lesson on their different applications.

Eyeshadow

Eyeshadow can be used to help make the color of your eyes pop. To apply eyeshadow, take a small brush and rub it gently into your color of choice then brush it onto your eyelids.

Eyeliner

Eyeliner draws attention to the shape of your eye and eyelid. It can make the difference between creating a seductive or elegant look.

For application, first put a piece of beauty tape at whatever angle you want the line to be. After that, take the eyeliner pen or pencil and trace above the beauty tape, starting from the corner of the eye to your preferred length.

Mascara

Mascara is used to help your eyelashes stand out, or specifically, to make them appear longer. It should be applied last after eyeshadow and eyeliner.

To apply, take the mascara wand and swipe up from the base of the top eyelashes to their ends. For the bottom lashes, start at the base and swipe down.

Foundation Versus Concealer

Both concealer and foundation can be confusing for people who are just starting to learn about makeup. Don’t worry though, VALLEY has your back.

Foundation is the base of most makeup looks. For the skin, it is the first product applied since it creates a smooth appearance.

It should be brushed around the nose, cheekbone and forehead areas. After you have put the foundation on, try to blend it out so it spreads evenly.

Concealer, on the other hand, is often used for covering up blemishes. However, it can be applied under the eyes and below the cheekbones to brighten up your complexion. Concealer is normally applied after foundation.

Luminous Lips

Of course, there can’t be a complete makeup look without lipstick or lip gloss or the thousands of other products. Whether or not the color you choose stands out, it is important to incorporate these items in your routine.

Lipstick

Lipstick is often worn for more formal events, especially since the color can last for a long time. The shade you choose can both accentuate your mouth’s shape and be the finishing touch to your look.

To apply, take the lipstick and cover both your top and bottom lip, moving from left to right.

Lip Gloss

Lip gloss is a fun product to use to create a stunning appearance. It is applied the same way as lipstick, simply take the lip gloss wand and brush it over your lips. A product like this can be reused throughout the day, especially when you feel like you want to shine.
