Fun Fit Friday

At the end of a long week we usually say TGIF, but this Friday we’ll be saying TGIFFF. Every Friday in April, Penn State Fitness will be offering an exclusive look into fitness classes at the White Building with ‘Fun Fit Friday” for those without a membership. Mark your calendars now because Fridays — April 7, 14, 21 and 28 — from 11:15 am to 12 pm, all you need is your Penn State ID in order to get into this new fitness opportunity in room 6 White Building.

This class is different from your average fitness class — it is not featured on the schedule and will be run by the creativity of Allie and Megan, the two instructors leading the four classes throughout the month.  As opposed to the typical fitness class structure, the free April class will not follow a strict format. It’s intended to be high energy and for you to go at your own pace. You can expect anything from stations to relay races to kid games during these classes. Each Friday, the class will be different, the first of which will be an Olympic-styled game circuit. “It’s just a way to get people out who don’t have gym memberships, we’ll be playing games and using different props,” says Tori Lord, the Penn State Fitness and Wellness Coordinator.

Lord attended Penn State as an undergrad student studying Business Management with a minor in Kinesiology. She got her masters in Sports Management from Texas A&M University. She has been involved in campus recreation since she was a sophomore at Penn State, when she joined the fitness training program.

As she graduated from Texas A&M, a position opened up at Penn State and she returned back to her Happy Valley roots. Lord put this program together to promote health and wellness across campus and give others a chance to get active.

Lord says, “The class will still follow a safe, fun, effective fitness principle, which is always our main goal. There won’t be anything extreme or dangerous. We want to make a workout without really feeling like they’re working out.”

Go grab your Penn State ID card and other gym membership-less friends for this great opportunity. It’s fun, it’s fit, it’s free.
