Your Rainy Day Outfit Guide

When it rains, it pours especially in State College.

There is a lot to be thankful for this upcoming fall season: pumpkin picking, hay rides, haunted houses, scary movie marathons and the beautiful scenery while walking to class. However, with the highs of fall also come the lows: lots of rain and the impending doom of snow. While some people thrive during those cloudy, rainy days, others weep at the thought of pulling out the umbrella and making it to their 8 a.m.

Fortunately, rainy days don’t have to be so depressing. Stepping up your outfit game can turn a miserable day into a chance to break out some cute new rain boots and fall sweaters.

Even though it can be really tempting to just throw on some sweatpants and call it a day, look no further for the ultimate rainy day outfit inspiration: cute meets comfortable meets water-proof.

Outfit 1

This first outfit is for those super gloomy days when it looks like it is going to rain but never does. A cute shirt with an oversized cardigan to wrap yourself up in is a go-to fall look. Pair with some leggings or mom jeans for a relaxed and comfortable fit. In case it does rain, always pack an umbrella with you better to be safe than sorry.

Adding a thick pair of socks to the look will help keep your feet from getting too wet or cold.

This outfit could also be paired with some chunky gold jewelry and a messy bun to create an effortless yet stylish look. Stores like H&M and Urban Outfitters have cardigans similar to the one pictured above.

Outfit 2

What outfit screams “college” more than an oversized hoodie paired with an even more oversized flannel? For the perfect rainy day outfit, find a flannel with a hood attached. Double the hood means double the chance of staying nice and dry. Layering is key when it comes to planning out outfits for rainy days in the morning it’s cold and cloudy and by the afternoon it is sunny.

Chunky sneakers or a pair of Dr. Martens would pair perfectly with this look.

You can find oversized hoodies similar to this one at any thrift store, and remember: the baggier, the better. You can also easily find flannels second-hand; however,Urban Outfitters has a bunch of cute styles on their website. Always check the men’s section when shopping, as they usually offer more comfortable, oversized fits.

Outfit 3

What better way to dress up a simple puffer jacket than with some cool pants? Especially once it starts to get colder, having a thick, water-proof jacket will do you wonders.

Corduroy or plaid pants would also look super cute with this outfit. Try to experiment with your style and find clothes that suit your rainy day vibe.

Outfit 4

There is nothing worse than having a fancy event to go to and realizing it is pouring rain. For the days where you need to look your best, throw on a comfortable dress and a warm jacket. Contrast a girly, summery dress with a fall jacket to take your look from drab to fab.
