VALLEY Tries It: Whipped Coffee

If you’re not living under a rock, you’ve most likely downloaded TikTok by now, which means that you’ve definitely seen the latest whipped coffee trend. Also known as a Greek frappe, whipped coffee is taking social media by storm and everyone seems to be trying it.

VALLEY is here to give you a whipped coffee review and a step by step recipe so you can “whip” up the perfect batch!

TikTok makes whipped coffee look glamorous and of course, delicious. We can tell you that for any coffee lover, this drink is INCREDIBLY tasty. It’s the perfect switch up to your everyday cup of joe. What TikTok doesn’t show you is that making this fun drink can be a slightly messy process and your arm may hurt from whisking if you don’t own an electric whisk.

Most TikToks leave out the part where you have to mix the whipped coffee with the milk. Due to the thick consistency, it can be difficult to mix if you’re making the iced version, but if you stir for a minute or two it will eventually blend into the milk. If you whipped the coffee for long enough, the finished product will be perfectly smooth and sweet.

Whipped coffee can be made with any kind of instant coffee from the grocery story, but it can also be substituted for matcha powder–if that’s more your style. The consistency will be slightly different but it still provides the same effect. Another perk of this recipe is that it can be made with any type of milk depending on what you like.

The Recipe
What You’ll Need:
  • 2 tablespoons instant coffee
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Electric mixer or whisk
What You’ll Do:

Step 1: Put two tablespoons instant coffee and two tablespoons sugar into your bowl. Feel free to add more if you’re making drinks for more than one person — but always keep the amount proportionate.

Step 2: Heat up a cup of water in the microwave for about one minute. Then take two tablespoons of the hot water and add it to your mixture. If you’re making a larger batch, add the same amount of water as you did for the instant coffee and sugar.

Step 3: Start whisking! You should start to see the instant coffee and sugar dissolve in the first few seconds.

Step 4: After about a minute you’ll start to see the mixture lighten up. Keep stirring as fast as you can so it will continue to get thicker and lighter.

Step 5: Once your mixture resembles a light-colored peanut butter, it’s probably time to add it to the milk. Feel free to whisk for another minute if you want to make sure the mixture is completely smooth.

Step 6: Pour milk into your glass of choice. If you’re making the cold version of whipped coffee, add ice. Make sure to warm up your milk first if you’re making the hot version.

Step 7: Put your whipped mixture on top of the milk and stir until they’re blended together. This may take a minute or two.

Step 8: Sit back and enjoy your whipped coffee drink!
