On January 10, 2021, Sarah Jessica Parker took to Instagram to reveal that she would be reprising her role as Carrie Bradshaw in HBO Max’s reboot of one of a truly iconic show, “Sex and the City.” Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis also announced via Instagram that they would be returning as their characters Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York. However, Kim Cattrall, who played the sultry Samantha Jones in the original series, will not be coming back to play the show’s fourth main character.

The original series is based off the book “Sex and the City,” by Candance Bushell. The show found major success with all six seasons and two movies.

Fans of the classic series took to twitter to share how upset they were by the news of Cattrall not returning. However, it was not a surprise that Samantha Jones would be missing from any sort of “SATC” revival. Cattrall had rejected the offer of participating in a third “Sex and the City” movie.

It has also been rumored that Cattrall and Parker did not get along. In an interview with Piers Morgan back in 2017, Cattrall claimed that her and Parker had never been friends.

“I think she could’ve been nicer. I really think she could’ve been nicer. I don’t know what her issue is,” said Cattrall.

Cattrall’s comment notably struck a nerve in Parker.

“I found it very upsetting because that’s not the way I recall our experience,” said Parker in an interview on “Watch What Happens Live” with Andy Cohen.

However, more recently, Parker has seemed to put any claims of a rivalry to rest. In a response to a fan’s Instagram comment saying the two actresses dislike each other, Parker said, “No. I don’t dislike her. I’ve never said that. Never would. Samantha isn’t a part of this story. But she will always be a part of us. No matter where we are or what we do…”

Cattrall has yet to comment on the shows return to HBO. The reboot is set to consist of 10 episodes that follow characters Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they work through more relatable problems in their 50s. HBO has also announced plans to revive other quintessential shows like “Gossip Girl” and “True Blood.”
