Parents Weekend 101

It’s that time of year when the weather starts getting nicer and parents are coming to Happy Valley to spend the weekend meeting your friends and walking around campus enjoying the beautiful sunshine. VALLEY created a list of things to do to help one fill your activities with your parents to show them everything Happy Valley has to offer

Berkey Creamery

This is a tradition spot for anyone on a nice spring day looking for an afternoon treat. During April weekends, try to go during times that won’t be crowded such as late at night or early in the morning. If you go during prime hours of afternoon to early evening, anticipate waiting in a line. There are plenty of seats inside and outside to enjoy your treat.

Penn State Theatre

This is great idea for a night on the town to enjoy a play or musical. Booking tickets in advance is smart idea. This way one can see the schedule and list of performances to choose from. People can search for tickets and plays in the area using the School of Theatre site.

Aboretum

The Aborteum is a definite place to take your parents for peace, relaxation and beautiful landscape. There is always a great view with spring flowers blossoming. There are benches to sit as well a great place to bring your creamery ice cream as well with it being a quick walk from the creamery!

State College Bar Crawl

This is for all the seniors or over 21-year-olds that want to take their parents on a tour through out all the bars in State College. Popular bar crawls with their parents include a set plan of bars and even printed t-shirts. Going to bars right next to each other can also decrease the amount of walking and more time celebrating parents weekend! Some bars that are popular for a large amount of people are Champs, Cafe 210 West, Phyrst, Mad Mex and much more!

Hike Mount Nittany

For a nice spring day, hike the trails of Mount Nittany to overlook a beautiful view. According to the website, the hike is two to eight miles depending on the path you take. It wouldn’t take more than five hours to hike and see the breathtaking view. It’s a famous landmark in Happy Valley and one that will be worth the hike.

Depending on what the weather is like for parents weekend, remember to soak in the free meals and take in sharing the memories with your loved ones!
