On September 12, 2022, rapper PnB Rock, whose real name was Rakim Allen, was shot dead outside of The Roscoe’s House of Chicken & Waffles restaurant in Los Angeles. The attack occurred minutes after his location was tagged at the restaurant in a since deleted social media post by his girlfriend Stephanie Sibounheuang. The gunman had demanded jewelry and other valuables before opening fire. Although the suspect is yet to be named or arrested, the Los Angeles Police Department is still reviewing surveillance footage from the restaurant PnB Rock was killed. He was thirty years old when he died.
PnB Rock was best known for his breakout singles “Selfish” and “Middle Child.” Following the week after his death, his streams on his platforms spiked 650%. He registered 30.5 million on demand US streams compared to 4.1 million in the week prior.
PnB Rock was officially laid to rest on Wednesday, September 21st, in his hometown of Philadelphia slightly over a week after his murder. His brother revealed days after his murder that the family had difficulties getting his body back to have a proper Janazah, which is a Muslim tradition that involves burying the body within 24 hours of the death. The family received the rapper’s body on Friday, September 16th. The funeral was accompanied by XXXTentacion’s mother, Cleopatra Barnard, and other well known celebrities. Following PnB’s death, many celebrities have come forward expressing the tragedy and sadness that comes with the premature and senseless loss of an incredibly talented individual.
