5 Non-Downtown State College Restaurants to Support This Semester

Despite in-person classes being pushed back to February, it is likely the many students living in apartments will come back earlier as the spring semester quickly approaches. Many State College businesses have been affected by the current pandemic and are in need of safe and responsible support from the community. Here are a few non-downtown restaurants currently offering dine-in, takeout or delivery that students may not know about.

1. Sakura

Located at 1525 S. Atherton, Sakura is a Japanese restaurant that specializes in sushi and hibachi. Right on the corner of University Drive and S. Atherton, students likely have passed by when coming into town from 322. Choose from an assortment of regular rolls from $4.25 to $9.95 or special rolls from $8.95 to $15.95. VALLEY recommends the sweet potato or vegetable roll for a tasty vegetarian option. The hibachi dinners start at $12.95 for a vegetable hibachi and increase a dollar or two depending on the choice of meat. Sakura is currently offering takeout and delivery. 

2. Faccia Luna Pizzeria

Up the road from Sakura, Faccia Luna Pizzeria is located at 1229 S. Atherton. If you’re in the mood for Italian, Faccia Luna is the place to go. Starters range from classic garlic breadsticks and tomato bruschetta to unique dishes such as salmon bruschetta and portobello mushrooms. There are a variety of salads and sandwiches to choose from, but VALLEY suggests trying one of the signature pasta dishes or pizzas. Faccia Luna is currently offering dine-in and takeout.  

3. Gigi’s Southern Table

About a 10-minute drive from campus, Gigi’s Southern Table is located at 2080 Cato Ave. Gigi’s is known for its southern cuisine and stylish interior. The menu consists of Gigi’s favorites, housemade sides, shareables, greens and handhelds. Choose from a selection of surf or turf southern staples, like the brisket sandwich for $14 or the blackened fish tacos for $13. Treat yourself with the cajun chicken pasta or lemon dill salmon for $22. Or, share a platter of New Orleans garlic shrimp or calamari for $12. No matter what you get, Gigi’s dishes are bursting with southern pride and flavor. Gigi’s is currently offering dine-in, takeout and delivery.

4. Otto’s Pub & Brewery

Close to Wegmans and DICK’s Sporting Goods, Otto’s Pub & Brewery is located at 2235 N. Atherton. Otto’s is a casual pub and brewery that serves American favorites such as burgers, sandwiches and wraps, pizzas and salads. Select from a variety of affordable $5 to $9 appetizers, VALLEY recommends the chicken or tofu wings that come with a choice of seven different sauces. Choose a specialty pizza or build your own starting at $9 or go for a burger or sandwich all between $10 to $20. Otto’s is currently offering dine-in and pickup.

5. The Field Burger & Tap

Known for signature juicy burgers, The Field Burger & Tap is located in Toftrees at 1 Country Club Lane and is part of Toftrees Golf Resort. Share fries that almost completely cover the table when you dine-in starting at $7 or $4 for a single. One of VALLEY’s favorite starters to share is the soft pretzel with three different dipping sauces. Try a classic burger like the field burger for $13 or one of the Field’s more unique specials such as the Coach Franklin for $14. Shakes come in four different flavors and can be made classic for $6 and hard for $10. From salted caramel pretzel, s’mores, peanut butter and cookies and cream, a shake from the Field is the perfect dessert. The Field is currently offering dine-in and pickup.
