A common thought that passes through every girls’ minds as they get ready in the morning is what to wear. Everyone, no matter what they pick out, makes a conscious decision when deciding what to wear for the day. For some, it becomes a daily struggle to choose what to wear.

Sometimes, the choice becomes deciding between jeans or leggings. Valley wants to help make your morning routine easier by shedding light on the differences and benefits of both jeans and leggings.

Jeans are commonly worn as a way to pull together a nice outfit or to generally appear more dressed up. The denim used to make jeans is usually made of cotton and is usually a thick material. Their material makes jeans warmer than leggings and more suitable to wear on a cold day.

They also come in multiple colors, washes and styles. You can buy jeans in practically any color and style of which you can dream. If you’re looking for a happy medium between jeans and leggings, many retailers carry a jegging style that fits very similarly to leggings.

Freshman Kaitlyn Strubel says, “I prefer jeans, especially jeggings, because they’re comfy and make me feel like I’m wearing real clothes and am more put-together.”

Other styles include high-waisted, cropped, skinny, straight, flared/bellbottoms, bootcut and boyfriend cut.

There are also multiple denim wash options, ranging from the lightest of blues where the denim is almost white to the darkest of blues where the denim is nearly black. Jeans can also be made with acid-washed denim, two-toned denim, patterned fabric, patches and other decals, depending on the style.

Leggings, on the other hand, are usually worn for comfort or during periods of activity or exercise. They are usually made of lycra or spandex with a blend of other fabrics, in order to make movement easier and less restricted.

Senior Lashay Riley says, “I prefer leggings because they’re more flexible and comfortable to wear than jeans.”

Leggings are also somewhat versatile with the amount of colors, patterns and cuts that exist. For any outfit, you can find a pair of leggings that complete the look. Picking a funky pattern or shade can instantly add brightness and cheer to your outfit, while making a trendy statement.

To further suit a person’s individual needs, leggings are also manufactured in certain cuts, including high-waisted, cropped and full-length.

If you’re looking for leggings with a bit of a twist or surprise, some are made to look like leather or are metallic and shiny, while others have mesh panels and cutouts.
