Each week, our own fitness fanatics Christina Monteleone and Sabrina Evans will explore the latest workout crazes, diet fads and dish out tips for healthy living. Managing your schoolwork is tough enough- let us take care of your health.
The new year usually marks the start of fitness resolutions, but in order to keep up with your routine, it’s not a bad idea to sign up for a workout class that forces you to show up. No one likes to fail a challenge. Signing your life away to a Crossfit or yoga challenge might just help you accomplish your 2014 resolution.
The “Om Challenge” is a yoga challenge at a studio on South Allen Street, Yoga in State College. The challenge requires students to complete 45 classes in a single semester. Including a week off for spring break, that is a minimum of 3 classes a week. It is definitely possible but gets more challenging as schoolwork piles on and exams creep up.
Completing a yoga challenge like this one is not only healthy for your body but also beneficial mentally and emotionally. Yoga teaches mental wellness, detoxifies the body from all the drinking and fast food students eat and strengthens muscles for a strong, lean body frame. It’s rejuvenating, cleansing and actually pretty addicting once you get into the flow of it –no pun intended.
The “Om Challenge” is an escape from reality for a hour a day, and let’s be honest… you’ll look fantastic by spring break.
