When you only have half an hour to grab lunch, the HUB is everyone’s go-to spot. With an ideal location and reasonable prices, it can be hard to pass up. But when you’re bombarded with big names like Burger King, Chick-Fil-A and Sbarro, it’s easy to grab a burger or a slice of pizza and be on your way. If you’re stopping at the HUB between classes every day, you probably want to stick with healthier options to keep yourself feeling healthy and energized. Lucky for you, the HUB has lots of options for the health-conscious student.

If you’re a salad lover, the hub is your perfect lunch spot. You can either get a salad made for you at Mixed Greens or concoct your own at Soup & Garden in the HUB cafeteria. If you choose Mixed Greens at lunchtime, expect to wait in line (but before you wait for your salad, ask if the line is for Chic-Fil-A. If it is, they’ll usually allow salad-lovers to go in first). You can either choose a pre-made salad or choose your own toppings and dressing and have it mixed right in front of you.

In addition to salads, Mixed Greens also offers personalized wraps and sides such as chicken salad and veggie salad. If you’re in the mood to make your own salad, Soup & Garden is your spot. They have every salad topping you could think of, from sprouts to edamame to lemon shrimp, and since you’re making it yourself, there’s no limit on toppings. They also have a large variety of soups. For healthy soups, try going on Monday and Wednesday for chicken noodle, or Tuesday or Friday for turkey chili.

If you’re just looking for a quick snack, try hitting the HUB cafeteria where you can find yogurt, fresh fruit and veggies, Clif Bars, nuts and much more. If you’re not looking for a meal but want something a little more substantial than a handful of nuts, make a stop at Jamba Juice. Jamba Juice was just recently added to the HUB and it is the smoothie lover’s goldmine. While Jamba Juice has a very diverse menu, a very sweet employee named Judi informed me that their most popular items are Apples n’ Greens, Caribbean Passion, and most recently, Strawberry Wild. High in nutrition and relatively low in calories, Jamba Juice is the perfect stop for the health-conscious student.

So, next time you’re at the HUB, skip the french fries and pizza, there are much healthier options!
