The Fashion at the Academy Museum Gala

The Academy Museum Gala might become one of fashion’s new biggest nights. On Oct. 15, the Academy Museum held its second annual Gala, bringing together anyone and everyone from the world of show business. The event, which celebrates America’s largest museum devoted to filmmaking, raised over $10 million in donations for the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and celebrated icons such as media mogul Mikey Lee, director Steve McQueen and actor Tilda Swinton. Julia Roberts was also recognized and given the Icon Award in acknowledgment of her expansive career.

The red — or in this case, white — carpet did not disappoint. Some of the biggest names in the industry glammed up for the event and arrived in their best black-tie ensembles. If you didn’t catch the carpet, VALLEY is here with some of the top looks from the night.

George and Amal Clooney

One — or two in this case — of the best looks from the night came from celebrity power couple George and Amal Clooney. While George kept it classic with a black tux from Giorgio Armani, the simple style allowed his wife to shine. Amal stunned in a strapless, lime green dress from the Del Core resort collection; the dress featured a daring bustier that flowed into a long skirt with several shades of green. Amal completed the look with silver jewels from Cartier, which complemented her silver clutch.

Hailey Bieber amazed as always when she arrived on the white carpet wearing a taupe, sleeveless dress by Yves Saint Laurent, that featured a daring cutout right at the stomach. Bieber accessorized the look with a simple gold necklace from Tiffany and Co. She kept the makeup look simple, which allowed the dress, and her figure, to be the focus.

Selena Gomez

One celeb who rarely misses is Selena Gomez, and the Academy Gala was no exception. Gomez looked sharp and sophisticated in an all-black, tailored suit by Giorgio Armani. She paired the look with gorgeous jewels from Cartier including sparkling, silver earrings and large rings. The look was more subdued than some other outfits from the night, but the solid-black ensemble with matching stilettos and a more natural makeup look truly made Gomez shine.

Jodie Turner-Smith

Jodie Turner-Smith brought some color to the white carpet by wearing a daring, jade-green dress by Gucci. The actress, who is no stranger to trying new things on a red carpet, opted for the silky gown, which featured silver embellishments and blue feather detailing around the sleeves and the skirt. Turner-Smith paired the eye-catching gown with a black choker and black and white earrings. To match the aesthetic that Gucci has been going for, Turner-Smith also dyed her hair to match the blue feathers of the dress.

Olivia Wilde

It wouldn’t be a 2022 red carpet if we didn’t see at least one sheer gown, and luckily the Academy Gala had a few! One of the highlights was Olivia Wilde, who wore a silver-sheer gown from the Alexandre Vauthier spring-summer 2022 Couture collection. The dress also followed the feather trend that Jodie Turner-Smith brought to the carpet, with pink feather detailing on the bottom of the skirt. Wilde styled the shimmering, crystal-embellished dress with matching silver earrings and a pulled-back hairstyle to allow the dress to sparkle.

Another star bringing color to the white carpet was Kerry Washington, who arrived wearing a gown by Prabal Gurung. The dress featured a stunning red, white and purple, watercolor-esque pattern with a halter neck style at the top. The ruched silhouette style also included a plunging neckline with a cutout appearance. Washington completed the sultry look with long, black latex gloves and diamond drop earrings.

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner

One more celebrity couple highlight from the night was Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, who both brought eclectic looks to the carpet. Jonas went for a punk vibe with a black leather suit that featured printed artwork detailing, while Sophie Turner’s look featured a layered ensemble with a skirt and lace tights under a brown and beige-sleeved jacket. Both looks are featured in Louis Vuitton’s spring/summer 2023 ready-to-wear collection.
