The ultra-cringe and enthralling rom-com How to Lose a Guy in 10 days and its catchy soundtrack has blown up on TikTok the past few weeks. Journalist Andie Anderson (played by Kate Hudson) goes on a horrible, yet thrilling journey to write an article where she must find a guy and make the relationship so unbearable that the guy is forced to end it after a mere ten days. Andie shows us viewers what not to do in a relationship.
So, what does someone do? How is someone supposed to go about “getting the girl?” VALLEY has you covered.
Green Flags
The only color flag talked about in today’s day and age is a bright, glowing red. The green, however, is overlooked.
- Have good manners. It’s sexy. Open the door, and say “thank you” and “you’re welcome.” Being kind and courteous makes all the difference.
- Be polite to your parents. It’s all about respect.
- Be the one to initiate a connection. A lot of people tend to prefer when someone else jumpstarts the conversation. Be confident.
- Ask to go on a date instead of a one-night stand. This one is self-explanatory. Hook-up culture is extremely prevalent in college life, but it’s just not what everyone wants.
The First Date
If you manage to get to the first date, here are some things they should do:
- Be put-together and have confidence. Don’t show up in sweatpants and a wife beater– put a little effort in! We will too, and it’s a simple step to ensure a great night.
- Ask questions. Get to know us. We want to know you, too. What’s your favorite song to scream in the car? What’s your favorite pasta shape?
- Don’t bring us to your apartment first. We don’t want to be hidden from your roommates or brought in through the back door. The front door is probably more convenient, anyways.
- Make solid plans. Set a date and a time instead of leaving everything up in the air.
The Little Things
It’s the little things that can really make or break a relationship.
- Bring flowers. It sounds old-fashioned and cliché, but the act has stood against the test of time. A $10 bouquet from Target will make any girl’s day.
- Make an effort to meet her friends and family and be a part of her life. Know the things that are important to us.
- Compliment us. We put an effort into getting ready and it would be nice for that effort to be noticed.
- Be yourself. Don’t feel like you have to hide anything from us. Don’t feel like you can’t cry because it’s not “manly.” We like you for you– we don’t want some facade that you put on.
