From Rolling Stone to Alternative Press, everyone’s been talking about America’s hottest new band: Echosmith. Recently named one of MTV’s “Artists to Watch” for 2014, Echosmith joins the likes of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Lorde, who were awarded the title last year. Now Echosmith are heading to Penn State to play a free concert for students in the HUB.
Echosmith will be stopping in Happy Valley as part of their Trendsetter tour. They’ll be playing songs from their recently released album, “Talking Dreams”: an album described as a mix of new-wave and pop. The band’s hit single, “Come Together”, is a catchy pop rock track that’ll be stuck in your head for days. “Cool Kids” is more of an indie pop track, reminiscent of Ellie Goulding. The album has something for everything, including more mellow songs like “Bright” and “Surround You”. At times lead vocalist, Sydney Sierota, sounds like Hayley Williams, Ellie Goulding, or a mix of both. The vocal harmonies between Sydney and older brother Jamie are also some of the best harmonies I’ve heard in recent times.
Hailing from Los Angeles, California, Echosmith is comprised of the Sierota siblings, all aged between 14 and 20. The Sierotas grew up in a musical household, with a father who is a music producer and songwriter. They were playing as band for a few years before they were signed to Warner Brothers Records in 2012. Since then they’ve opened for acts like Owl City and Neon Trees, as well as drawing huge crowds at the Van’s Warped Tour last year.
Don’t miss your chance to see this incredible band live (and for free!). We’ll be there – keep on the lookout for an exclusive post-show interview!
You can catch Echosmith in the HUB Alumni Hall on January 25 at 10pm.
