Gearing Up for Festival Season

Valley knows that everyone’s mind is focused on finishing the semester somewhat successfully and just generally trying to get their lives together, but we have something to help take your mind off your stressful end-of-semester work: festival season!

For those who don’t know, “a festival is a music event, usually held outdoors and attended by thousands of music fans. Multiple artists play on multiple stages and on some occasions, these festivals last multiple days.”

There are many festivals that occur throughout the year, but three very popular festivals are happening within the next few months and are definitely ones to look forward to!

Coachella

Coachella is one of the biggest music festivals around and is happening in Indio, California April 14-16 and April 2123. There are bound to be plenty of celebrities there to enjoy the music and be photographed sporting impeccable festival fashion.

If you want to fit in at Coachella, definitely take a cue from the stars. Last year, denim on denim was extremely popular among celebrities, as were floral prints and crocheted everything. Many celebrities wore fringed or gladiator sandals and wild patterns.

You can’t go wrong with fun braids, buns or headbands because they’ll help keep your hair off your face in the heat.

Radiohead is headlining both Fridays, with appearances by the XX, Mac Miller, BANKS and Capital Cities. Lady Gaga headlines both Saturdays, with performances by Bon Iver, Future, Bastille and Martin Garrix. Kendrick Lamar headlines Sunday, with additional artists Lorde, Tove Lo, Galantis and DJ Khaled.

Firefly

Firefly is one of the more well-known festivals, and it takes place on the East Coast. If you’re lucky enough to attend, you’ll get to spend four amazing days in The Woodlands of Dover, Delaware June 15-18.

You can get away with wearing pretty much anything to a festival, but again, patterns and florals are always a great option. A flowy, flared top and jean cutoffs, paired with sandals or any comfortable shoe is a perfect outfit. Feel free to accessorize, especially with boho flower crowns, headbands and floppy hats.

Kaleo and Glass Animals are among the several artists performing on Thursday. Twenty One Pilots headlines Friday, with performances by Flume, Weezer, BANKS and Lil Dicky.

The Weeknd, Chance the Rapper and Bob Dylan all headline Saturday, with Kesha, Galantis and Capital Cities. Finally, Muse headlines Sunday, with Thirty Seconds to Mars, Misterwives and Waka Flocka.

Made in America

Made in America takes place on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is viewed as the last hoorah before returning back to school. It commonly takes place over Labor Day weekend.

The theme of Made in America is all things American, so wear anything you own that’s patriotic or covered in red, white and blue. Cutoffs and various bodysuits or bathing suit tops with converse are very common amongst women who attend.

The lineup hasn’t been released yet for this year, but last year, on Sept. 3 and 4, many big artists headlined, including Rihanna, Coldplay, Chance the Rapper, FKA Twigs, 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne, and Martin Garrix.
