From Swarovski Crystals to Snooze Fests, The Best and Worst Dressed on The Oscars Red Carpet

Each award season gifts us the hard launch of new celebrity couples, salacious gossip and VALLEY’s personal favorite, the red carpet looks. From Swarovski crystals to snooze fests, every red carpet comes equipped with a chaotic archive of glambots for us to pick apart. The 2024 Oscars marked the year that people went back to the movies. Whether you chose “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer,” or a back-to-back marathon, big movies mean big stars on the carpet. Here are VALLEY’s best and worst looks of the night.

The Worst

1. Billie Eilish

Eilish was dressed in head to toe Chanel down to her interesting mid-calf length socks. Billie looks like she is either Jenny Humphrey’s new frenemy at Constance or was just cast in a “School of Rock” reboot. While we appreciate the school-girl look (that we assume is an ode to the band Boy Genius), this missed the mark for the Oscars.

2. Andrea Riseborough

Riseborough was dressed in Loewe. This dress could not have been worse. It looks like a meta take on the red carpet mixed with a literal carpet. There is nothing more to say.

The Best

1.Zendaya

Zendaya was dressed in Armani Privé and Bulgari Jewelry. We’ve seen better from the “Dune” star, but she never flops and as per usual she’s our best dressed! The only addition we’d make is some sort of Bulgari necklace to pull the look together.

2. Anya Taylor-Joy

Anya Taylor-Joy was dressed in a Dior gown reimagined from Dior’s 1949 Junon design. The dress took over 3,500 hours of embroidery to make and is stunning. The jewelry complements the gown perfectly and matched with the understated hair and makeup create a perfect red carpet look!

The Weirdest

1. Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande was dressed in custom Giambattista Valli Haute Couture and Tiffany & Co. Jewelry. The hair, makeup and jewelry were all flawless and completely captured Glinda, her role in the highly-anticipated “Wicked” live-action film. But the dress. This look sent us on a fever dream back to middle school health class. You can’t lie that this dress is extremely reminiscent of a diagram of the female form. You can literally pick out the ovaries and fallopian tubes!

2. Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture and Swarovski Created Diamonds. This wasn’t bad but just what? Sure, the dress is elegant and classic and this may just be our coveted parasocial relationship with the star, but this doesn’t seem like her. This looks like she just threw something on from her mother’s closet while visiting in the Hamptons.
