Whether you’re a loyal “Gossip Girl” fan or not, we all can agree that Blake Lively knows how to own a red carpet, and her newest string of looks is no exception. In honor of her mysterious character Emily in her latest film, “A Simple Favor,” Lively has been sporting a unique variety of pantsuits — each of which stands out more than the last.

Her chic new outfit choices, however, have not been free from criticism. Lively was quick to point out the disproportionate attention she was receiving for wearing menswear-inspired fashion on Instagram, saying, “Would you note a man wearing lots of suits during a promo tour? So why can’t a woman? Just sayinnnn. No double standards ladies.”

Regardless of whether or not you agree with Lively, her suits have been undeniably impactful. Here’s a look at the bold fashion statements Lively has been documenting on her Instagram account for the past month.

From bold plaid prints and tuxedo-inspired looks to sleeveless velvet sets, Lively’s eye-catching suits are just the latest example of the pantsuit trend taking over red carpets this year.

Many point to the #MeToo sweeping Hollywood as to why we’ve seeing these powerful statement pieces on every major red carpet this year. Women have been swapping couture dresses for classic, yet fresh takes on the pantsuit in honor of female empowerment.

Some stars have been opting for a traditional, clean-cut suit, while others have been opting for oversized, printed or more embellished pantsuits. Whether it be Anna Kendrick and Alessia Cara at the Grammys or Claire Foy at the Golden Globes, strong women from all industries have been putting their own spin on this classic look.

The latest fashion runways have been capturing this latest menswear trend as well.

Paul Smith released a line of oversized women’s suits in bold colors.

Chic pantsuits are a versatile day-to-night wardrobe option that are easy to incorporate into your wardrobe. As Penn State students near job interviews and entering the workforce, VALLEY encourages you to hop on this pantsuit trend and step away from the usual black and grey work attire. Take a page out of Blake Lively’s book and stray from the traditional.
