DIY: Origami Heart Valentines

Valentine’s Day is a perfect time to show our friends and family just how much we love them, but we know how expensive cards can be. Luckily, Valley has a super cute idea that’s sure to impress everyone you love — without emptying your wallet.

Save money and add sentimental value to your gift when you make these origami heart valentine cards! Follow the steps below, and the images at the end, to make your very own.

Step 1: Take a piece of origami paper, or any square shaped paper and put the colored side face down. Orient your paper so that it looks like a diamond. If your paper is colored on both sides, that’s okay, just make sure you make a distinction between one side and the other (maybe by drawing a pattern on one side).

Step 2: Fold the paper so the bottom corner meets the top, and the left corner meets the right.

Step 3: Unfold the paper, with the colored side still down. Now, take the top corner and fold it so that the corner meets the folded center of the paper.

Step 4: Take the bottom corner, and fold it until the corner touches the top of the piece you just folded down to the center.

Step 5: Fold each side of your paper on a diagonal, to make the heart shape. Look at image number 5, if you’re unsure what this means.

Step 6: You’re almost done. You’ve basically got the heart shape, so to finish it off, fold the corners on the side and the corners on the top to the back. Voila — you have a perfect heart.

Sometimes, it’s beneficial to glue the “sides” of the heart down, since they tend to open up a bit on their own. When you’re finished, write your own personalized message, attach a candy, and you’re all set! Happy Valentine’s Day!
