With just a day to go before our 45th president is chosen, the stakes have risen, and tension is high among likely voters. The stress of election year is finally [almost] over! To lighten the mood, Valley decided to recap some of the most ridiculous and thought provoking moments of this past election year…

April 12, 2015 – Hillary Clinton announced via a YouTube video, “I’m running for President.”

June 16, 2015 – Donald Trump announced that he is “officially running for President of the United States, and we are going to make our country great again.”

June 16, 2015 – Donald Trump declares that, in order to increase national security, “I will build a great, great wall on our southern border and I will have Mexico pay for that wall.”

August 6, 2015 – Donald Trump gains support with his famous line, “I don’t frankly have time for total political correctness. And to be honest with you, this country doesn’t have time either.”

August 14, 2015 – Hillary Clinton jokes about her email scandal and her new snapchat account, stating, “You may have seen I recently launched a Snapchat account. I love it. Those messages disappear all by themselves.”

October 13, 2015 – When asked to name the enemies each nominee were most proud to have made over the course of their political lives, Hillary Clinton responded with, “Well, in addition to the NRA, the health insurance companies, the drug companies, and the Iranians… Probably the Republicans.”

September 26, 2016; First Presidential Debate – Hillary Clinton refers to Donald Trump’s economic plan as “Trumped Up Trickle Down” economics. Donald Trump asserts, “I will release my tax returns — against my lawyer’s wishes — when she releases her 33,000 e-mails that have been deleted.”

October 9, 2016; Second Presidential Debate – Hillary Clinton makes the claim that, “It’s just awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law in our country.” to which Donald Trump boldly responded with, “Because you’d be in jail.”

October 19, 2015 – At the final presidential debate, Donald Trump  touched on his famous plan to “build the wall,” because, “We have some bad hombres here, and we’re going to get them out.”

But despite the banters, the name-calling, and the fact checking, the candidates can actually compliment each other every now and then. Here’s what the candidates had to say when asked to name one positive thing about each other…

“Look, I respect his children. His children are incredibly able and devoted, and I think that says a lot about Donald. I don’t agree with nearly anything else he says or does, but I do respect that. And I think that is something that as a mother and a grandmother is very important to me.” – Hillary Clinton

“I will say this about Hillary. She doesn’t quit. She doesn’t give up. I respect that. I tell it like it is. She’s a fighter. I disagree with much of what she’s fighting for. I do disagree with her judgment in many cases. But she does fight hard, and she doesn’t quit, and she doesn’t give up. And I consider that to be a very good trait.” – Donald Trump
