British Pop Invasion

Invading our our billboards and iTunes, that is. The British have long been known for producing some of the biggest names in American music― The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Coldplay, Queen, Adele. Does “Spice Up Your Life” bring back any memories? It looks like 2013 will bring on yet another wave of British musicians, this time set on invading American pop music.

What makes British musicians so appealing to American fans, though? Freshman Lea Rehborn says, “They sound different than the usual.” British singers bring a unique style to their music, and Americans can’t seem to get enough of it. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love those awesome British accents? For anyone tired of the same old music, look to the other side of the pond for some inspiration. With that said, keep calm, carry on, and listen to these British musicians.

Ed Sheeran

This soulful British singer/songwriter is known by his trademark red hair and quirky style. Sheeran’s debut album, “+“, features hit singles “The A Team” and “Lego House” that have been heard on radios across America. According to Ticketmaster.com, Sheeran is set to headline a sold-out tour across the United States. Look out for more from this redheaded Brit because he could be the next big thing in American music!

One Direction

Who hasn’t heard of (and completely fallen in love with) these five British boys? Harry, Zayn, Liam, Niall and Louis have stolen the hearts of girls all over the world. This British boy band, formed by Simon Cowell and “The X Factor”, and will set out on a world tour in February. Their songs are upbeat and undeniably catchy. And really, who can resist those cute smiles and  adorable accents?

Singles like “Domino” and “Price Tag” will have you singing and dancing all night long. Listen to this spunky singer/songwriter’s cheerful pop tunes to brighten any bad day. This breakthrough British artist has made it on the Billboard Hot 100, and it doesn’t look like she’s slowing her momentum any time soon! 

Mumford and Sons

If you’re looking for the perfect feel-good music, look no further than this folk band. Amazing harmonies and uplifting lyrics will leave any listener as a fan of the group. Mumford and Sons second album, “Babel”, held its own at the top of the charts, and their singles can be heard all over the radio. Mumford and Sons provides a refreshing change from the popular music of today. We guarantee you’ll be listening to their songs on repeat.
