Just last week TikTok sensation Addison Rae sent shockwaves through social media with her debut song and music video “Obsessed.” The song has taken off and gained the attention of the world.
On Mar. 26, Rae performed her single, without a live audience, on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Along with the performance, Rae taught Fallon a few TikTok dances as well as answered questions regarding her relationship with Mariah Carey and the inspiration for her first song.
The live performance beautifully mimicked her music video with red lights, flashy outfits and high-energy choreography. The choreography was done by Sara Biv and Calvit Hodge and the verdict is, Rae killed it.
Rae is new to the music industry and some feel like this might just be another way of making cash, however, that does not seem to be the case. Rae told Rolling Stone, “A lot of people assume that just because of TikTok, I get things handed to me.”
“I want to show that this is a real passion of mine and not just something that I jumped into and got the chance to do.”

Other TikTokers like Charlie and Dixie D’Amelio have released music as well, but Rae is the first to appear on a late-night talk show.
Before music, Rae has worked with brands like SHEIN and American Eagle. She also has a makeup line, ITEM Beauty, which sells products like mascaras and blushes, staples in Rae’s sunkissed makeup looks. Along with a makeup line and unlimited brand deals, Rae is to appear in the new movie, “He’s All That,” which will be her second film production next to “Spy Cat.”
Nearing 80 million followers on TikTok, Rae experiences backlash and constant criticism. From body shaming to constant pressure from the press to reveal the inner workings of her love life, it is no surprise that the meaning of her song goes beyond having someone obsessed with her.
Rae says that her song is meant to be a self-love piece. Learning how to love yourself and be okay with being alone is the first step to loving others. Especially with the hate and scrutiny, Rae has experienced under the spotlight on social media, her song is meant to show others that you should be obsessed with yourself.
The song also follows the recent news of Rae’s split from TikToker Bryce Hall.
Rae revealed to Fallon that she has more music to come. “The next single is coming out way sooner than people think,” said Rae. So whether that means next week or next year, we know that we will be obsessed with whatever Rae chooses to put out.
