VALLEY’s Spring Break 2019 Travel Guide

Spring Break is just a week away, and hundreds of Penn State students are getting ready to pack their bags and fly off to the paradise they’ve been dreaming about, in between textbooks and exams.

VALLEY jumped right into the excitement and asked students what the five most popular Spring Break 2019 destinations are. The results were:

Cabo, Mexico; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Nassau, Bahamas; Miami, Florida; and lastly, Barcelona, Spain.

While spring break trips are known for non-stop partying, all day and night, on the resort and in the local bars and clubs, it is a great idea to take a day to relax and explore some really cool places that your destination has to offer. Luckily for all the spring breakers out there, VALLEY has composed a travel guide to the top spring break 2019 destinations!

Cabo San Lucas

If you are traveling to Cabo, there is so much to do in the area, but a must-see is El Arco, or Land’s End. El Arco is a beautiful rock formation nestled between Playa del Amor and Playa del Divorcio, on the southern end of Cabo San Lucas. The spot can be reached by water taxi and is definitely insta worthy. And if you’re lucky, you might even get to see some sea lions.

Punta Cana

For the Punta Cana goers, you are obviously visiting for the famous Bavaro Beach strip. But if you’re the more adventurous type, take a trip to Hoyo Azul. Yep, its exactly what it sounds like. Hoyo Azul is a cenote (a sinkhole) located in Scape Park, which is a natural “theme park” in the jungle. Visiting Hoyo Azul will leave you in awe as you swim through water so crystal clear it appears a bright turquoise.

Nassau

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be up close and personal with a stingray? Well for the Bahamas goers, you can easily experience this! Nassau has many awesome attractions, but Atlantis, Paradise Island definitely steals the show. Stepping on to this resort will make you feel like you have traveled to the lost city of Atlantis. Here you can hang out with lots of sea animals, and you can even feed the stingrays!

Miami

In Miami, a must-see is the Versace Mansion. Located on the famous South Beach strip of the city, designer Gianni Versace’s mansion is both extraordinarily lavish and mysterious. Versace was murdered on the front steps of his mansion in 1997, by the infamous serial killer, Andrew Cunanan – but that didn’t stop the transition of the mansion into a hotel. You can even dine at Gianni’s, an Italian restaurant located right inside the mansion.

Barcelona

Barcelona is a beautiful city with so much to discover. Lots of students travel here to see their friends over the crazy week that is known as “abroad fest” to many who are familiar with studying abroad. While Barcelona has amazing nightlife and beaches, everyone is familiar with the city’s trademark tourist spots: La Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, the Gothic Quarter – the list goes on and on. But for all the foodies out there, be sure to check out Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria (the Boqueria Market). Here, you can buy all kinds of Catalan cuisine, while enjoying the colors, atmosphere and liveliness of the market.

If you are lucky enough to be traveling to one of these amazing destinations, take advantage of the opportunities to explore the area’s culture! With so much to do, Spring Break 2019 could be the trip of a lifetime.
