Four Unique Spring Breaks

Spring break planning seems to start earlier and earlier each year. If you missed out on booking your trip or looking for something different, explore these vacations which offer much more than a beach!

For the Hiker

March can be the perfect time to go hiking, kayaking or just sightsee. With picturesque Airbnb cabins and the scenery at the start of spring, the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina offer a unique spring break experience with temperatures in the low 60s. To stay within just hours driving distance of State College, the Finger Lakes in New York have beautiful trails, waterfalls and even some of the best wineries in the country. If you are looking to go further afield, Lake Tahoe, between California and Nevada, or Sequoia National Park, in California are perfect spots to visit before they become overwhelmed by tourists, and it won’t be too hot.

For the Sightseer

Just before the start of the peak travel season, March is the last month of the year that European cities offer extremely inexpensive flights and hotels. Take advantage of $300 flights to Barcelona or Paris, or even $400 flights to Italy during this time. Barcelona will be in the mid 60s  — the perfect spring weather to visit Park Güell. Paris will be a little chillier, in the mid 50s, but still warm enough to enjoy the city. If you’re still longing for a beach trip, Mediterranean beaches in Italy, Greece and Malta will be just warm enough!

For the Adventurer

If you want to skip the heat this spring break, look no further than Lake Louise, Canada. The Canadian Rockies and low temperatures are ideal for skiing, hiking, taking a dog sled tour or seeing Victoria Glacier. With flights from $400, Lake Louise will make the perfect spring break experience.

For the Volunteer

To experience a new culture but make your spring break worthwhile, consider volunteering with IVHQ or Volunteering Solutions. With one week options, international volunteer organizations offer specialized areas like healthcare, teaching and conservation so you can spend spring break doing something you’re passionate about. With discounted flights to locations like Ghana, Bali or Argentina, volunteering gives you the opportunity to visit a new place while making a difference.
