Urban Outfitters to Host a THON Celebration

This Thursday, February 4^th is World Cancer Day — a day dedicated to raising awareness and gaining global support in the fight for a cure. To honor this day, Urban Outfitters is throwing a celebration of THON from 5 to 9pm. We spoke with Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) representative, Miranda Kulp, about the unique fundraiser.

“Urban Outfitters is 100% behind THON and the Penn State community,” says Kulp. “We were just lucky enough to get in touch with them to help promote the event.” Together, Miranda and Genae Salinas, another member of PRSSA and an Urban Outfitters employee, helped plan and publicize the event which includes free refreshments and live entertainment.

Instead of a typical fundraiser, “they want to make it more of a celebration of THON,” says Kulp. There will be live performances by DJ Kidd and Penn State’s Ram Squad, snacks provided by Food For Thought Food Truck and Eat Nakd, drinks by Boxed Water, and THON representatives present at the downtown State College location.

Urban Outfitters is donating a lump sum to support THON, but customer donations are encouraged as well. Donation boxes will be located around the store, and donators can participate in a streamer DIY project and may be entered to win giveaway prizes.

What’s more, with the Urban Outfitters app, shoppers can save up to 10% off full-price merchandise and 30% off sale merchandise during the event.

“It’s really just great timing,” says Kulp, “showing that Urban Outfitters cares about THON and wants to support the community as much as possible.”

With Penn State’s dance marathon approaching soon, the entire Penn State community is encouraged to come out, enjoy the celebration and shop for a cause.
