Purple-Out Scheduled to Honor Kayla Nakonechni

It was announced this week that this Saturday’s home football game will be a purple out in remembrance of Kayla Nakonechni. To celebrate the life of the wonderful person Kayla was, students and fans are encouraged to wear purple and gray. Purple was Kayla’s favorite color, as well as the color for All Cancer Awareness and gray is the color for Brain Cancer Awareness. Kayla’s life was taken too soon when she lost her courageous battle to brain cancer on Wed. Oct 14.

The entire Penn State community felt the loss of Kayla, who was actively involved in THON and Nittanyville. She was also the Blue Band’s THON child. She lived life by the motto “Life’s tough, but I’m tougher” and had an infectious smile. Kayla was also our cover girl for our fall 2014 issue. We will always remember Kayla and how she was able to brighten any room she walked into. You can read more about how we remember Kayla here.

There are plenty of Penn State shirts available in purple or gray, so get downtown to be a part of this special event! The Family Clothesline downtown is also selling purple “#TeamKayla” shirts that can be purchased here. Let’s make Beaver Stadium filled with purple and gray to remember Kayla and the wonderful person she was. She deserves it more than you could know.
