Finals are slowly but surely approaching us, and the lingering need to study and cram in the last-minute assignment thrown at you may seem unbearable. On top of that, you may feel the desire to go out with your friends and soak up the last few nights out of the semester. We get it… we really do. You know you have to get stuff done for school, but you also cannot shake the itch of a good party. The solution? A study crawl.

Okay fine, we’ll admit, it is certainly not the same as a bar crawl or frat hopping but take our positive spin on studying and roll with it for a few minutes… you might just be convinced to try it!

The Rundown

Essentially, a study crawl is just like a bar crawl, but you’re going to your favorite study spots instead of your favorite bars. Come on, it sounds a little appealing.

First, you make a list of all your favorite spots on campus you enjoy working at. This can be anywhere! Then you will make a list of all the assignments and things you want to complete by the end of it. Designate which tasks you will complete at which location. You cannot go to the next location until you finish all the tasks you appoint to that spot.

This may seem like a lot, but trust us, by the end of your crawl you will feel productive and extremely accomplished. You might just want to do it again!

A PSU Student’s Perfect Study Crawl

If you need some inspiration on spots to hit up or where to even start, we’ve got you covered with the perfect foolproof study crawl breakdown.

Start your day off with a pre-game at home. Fuel up your body with a good breakfast, change into comfortable but still cute clothes (look good, do good) and get everything you will need all together.

And You’re Off

Let’s say you go to your first location at 9 a.m. Ideally, you start off at a café that you love. Either downtown Starbucks, Dunkin’ or Irving’s is a great start. Get yourself a drink and maybe something to eat if you haven’t eaten already. This will wake you up and get your energy high right from the jump.

Once you complete your list for your first location, head over to one of your favorite buildings on campus. Buildings such as the Sparks Building, Health and Human Development Building, Huck Life Science Building and the Willard Building Media Center have really great spots to check out! You want a place where there is little distraction and no options for food just yet.

Another Round

By the time you finish up at that building, it is probably time for lunch. If you want to stay on-campus, Panera, the HUB or Saxby’s in the Business Building are the perfect places for the midday pick-me-up you’ll need. If you are going downtown, the options are endless for a good lunch spot… anything you’re craving, you’ll be set!

The fourth spot would have to be the library. We recommend going to an area you have never gone to before, or if you’ve been everywhere, someplace you rarely go to. Finding a new spot can add some motivation if you are starting to feel burned out.

Last Call

Stay at that spot until you finish your designated assignments, then reward yourself with some dinner! This is where you take a break from working. Relax your mind and do something that is not school-related while you eat. At this point, you can either call it a day and feel proud of what you got done or if you still have some steam in you, go back out to one more location and finish up a few more things. If you do go back out, go to a place that is comforting and familiar. Our recommendation is to go back to the library and work in your favorite spot this time. There are so many cozy areas to finish up your work into the night and complete the perfect study crawl.

Finding the motivation to sit down and study, especially at the end of the semester, can feel nearly impossible. However, take our advice and try this fun spin on it. Invite your friends or do it solo… or a mix of both! Study crawl your way to success, you’re so close!
