Movies To Watch for Every Emotion

Movies have the power of capturing how we feel and bringing it to life on a screen. They can make us laugh and cry in a matter of seconds. Sometimes we just need to take a break and unwind, and watching movies can be a great way to do so. We often choose movies that we can relate to based on the mood we’re in. With that in mind, here are some of VALLEY’s top movie recommendations for every emotion you might be feeling.

Happy

If you’re feeling happy, you may want to watch something uplifting to keep your mood up. A classic feel-good movie, “Mamma Mia!” (2008), is a musical comedy based on songs from ABBA. “Mamma Mia!” tells the story of a young woman named Sophia (Amanda Seyfriend) who is about to get married on a beautiful island in Greece. She grew up not knowing who her father was, and she wanted to find out before she got married. So, Sophie invites three different men from her mother’s past to her wedding to find out who her father is. You can find “Mamma Mia!” on Peacock TV, Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.

Sad

Sometimes life can be tough, and we all just need a good cry. “The Pursuit of Happyness” (2006) will most likely have you shedding some tears. “The Pursuit of Happyness” is a drama featuring Will and Jaden Smith about a struggling salesman who becomes homeless and has to provide for his young son. Based on a true story, you’ll most likely find the powerful themes of perseverance and hard work even more inspiring (and sad). You can find “The Pursuit of Happyness” on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Scared

If you’re in for a good scare and want to be at the edge of your seat, there’s nothing better than a thriller to get your heart racing. “Psycho” (1960) is a thriller about a woman who embezzles money and goes on the run. She ends up at a motel run by a disturbed young man and his mother. “Psycho” is a classic suspenseful movie that you can watch on Amazon Prime.

Angry

Feeling angry is a natural emotion that we all face at times. It’s an emotion that when felt, needs to be released. Instead of punching your pillow, try watching “Fight Club” (or do both). “Fight Club” (1999) is about two friends, played by Edward Norton and Brad Pitt, who decide to create an underground fight club as a way to escape their everyday lives. “Fight Club” teaches the importance of channeling our anger instead of letting it build up inside us. You can watch “Fight Club” on HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video.

Relaxed

It’s a great feeling to be relaxed, and there’s nothing better to help you relax even more than a chill movie. “Chef” (2014) is about a successful chef played by Jon Favreau who quits his job and decides to open a food truck and travel the country. Additionally, “Chef” features other well-known actors such as Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr. “Chef” is a laid-back film about food, culture and friendship that will keep you feeling relaxed. You can watch it on HBO Max, Vudu and Amazon Prime Video.

Movies have the power to relieve our emotions or even make us feel them more strongly. Taking the time to unwind is important even when you’re in a good mood, so sit back and enjoy some of these movies!
