Jack Harlow: The Man with America in his Chokehold

Women want him. Men want to be him. He’s the one they call “The Great White” — and no, we’re not talking about Betty White (rest in power queen). We’re talking about Jack Harlow, the man your boyfriend both fears and admires. With the classic black tank, gold chain and curly hair crafted by God himself, Harlow has slowly but surely become the newest drool-fest while simultaneously invading any and every playlist we have been making for the past two years.

“WHATS POPPIN,” Harlow’s first major hit, was released on March 13th, 2020, giving us a new up-and-coming artist to overplay. With its catchy piano riff that glides into an effortless flow, it’s no surprise that we were instantly hooked. Who could blame us?

Close your eyes and think back to the first time you heard it: at a high school party, a walkup song on the baseball field or the newest TikTok sound. It. Was. Everywhere. Now with his latest feature on “Industry Baby” by Lil Nas X, what could’ve been a one-hit-wonder turned into another beast itself: America’s infatuation with a 6-foot-3-inch Pisces from Kentucky.

While Harlow has been making music long before he made it to the top charts, his career has since taken off. Currently signed to Atlantic Records, he is in the midst of his iconically named “Crème de la Crème” tour. More than that, Harlow achieved his first chart-topper with the collaboration of the century with Lil Nas X on “Industry Baby,” arguably one of the best songs to come from 2021. There’s no denying the weight this man holds in the music industry, and VALLEY thinks it’s only the beginning.

So if you’ve either been living under a rock or are skeptical of the allure behind America’s boyfriend, here is a playlist to ease you into a slightly concerning addiction to his music:

Missionary Jack

Sure, Harlow makes good music, but we can’t forget that he calls himself “Missionary Jack” for a reason. When Harlow first stepped out on the scene as a fresh face to the rap genre, he was baby-faced and hadn’t figured out how to style his hair yet (at least we think). While two years later he is still the same man we all fell in love with, he is everything and more with the glow-up of the century. According to an article by Jonathan Heaf at GQ, we have Harlow’s manager to thank for this. He has since integrated facials, manicures and other additions to his self-care routine and it’s safe to say it’s paid off. The sex appeal oozes off this man like steam off asphalt — at least that’s what the TikTok edits are convincing us.

However, as we all know, personality (or lack thereof) can make or break a man, and Jack Harlow exceeds all expectations we would have for him. After appearances on internet shows such as “Chicken Shop Date” or watching him and his best friend Druski interact, it’s hard to not simply want to be friends with the guy.

It’s instances like this that remind us that at the end of the day, he’s just another 23-year-old guy who just so happens to be the man we would all sign an NDA for without hesitation. It’s the symbiotic relationship of good looks, personality and having a song for everybody that leaves no one safe from the clutches of Jack Harlow.
