Avocado toast. Everyone’s favorite breakfast. But have you thought about avocados as more than just something to eat? Though they’re delicious on toast, they are a lifesaver when it comes to beauty, serving as a hair, skin and nail game-changer.

Avocados are packed with omega-3 fatty acids, nutrients and antioxidants. The fats and oils in avocados are good for the skin, helping to hydrate and even out wrinkles and skin tone. The vitamins boost skin health and help protect against damage and promote elasticity. Avocados also contain biotin, which is good for nail growth and hair growth, promoting thickness. They protect and moisturize hair strands, helping to repair the damage. They are great to add to your beauty routine, as they have many benefits for the hair and skin.

Incorporating avocados into your beauty routine can be very simple. Whether you make a hair mask, face mask or buy products with avocado, they will prove to be beneficial in your routine and become a game-changer.

If you’re looking to go homemade, VALLEY has some ideas you can try! For a face mask,

Here’s What You’ll Need
  • 1 Avocado
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon of Greek or plain yogurt (optional)
  • 1-2 tablespoons of oatmeal (optional)
What You’ll Do
  1. Start with one avocado and mash until smooth
  2. Add one of the optional ingredients or a few of them to your mashed avocado and mix until smooth and incorporated
  3. Apply the mask with hands to your face and leave the mask on for about fifteen minutes or longer, rinse, and then finish off with your normal skincare

Honey is packed with antioxidants and helps with hydration, scarring, and the removal of bacteria. Yogurt helps shrink pores and gets rid of wrinkles. Oatmeal helps with inflammation and acne. You can pretty much add any skin-healthy ingredients you desire, whether it be some essential oils, citrus juices or even other skin-healthy fruits like bananas to maximize benefits. Use the masks about once or twice a week.

For a hair mask,

Here’s What You’ll Need
  • 1 Avocado
  • 1 egg (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon of Olive Oil or Coconut oil(optional)
What You’ll Do
  1. Start by mashing your avocado until smooth
  2. Add any of the optional ingredients or incorporate them all (for the egg, crack and whisk before adding to the mashed avocado)
  3. Mix until combined and fully incorporated
  4. Apply mask for thirty minutes to an hour on dirty hair before you wash it, rinse out, and follow through with your normal hair care routine in the shower

Eggs contain biotin and protein and help with hair growth, breakage, and shine. Oils help to loosen up the mixture and allows you to reap the benefits for silky, shiny hair. These oils will also help with dandruff and moisture for those with drier hair. Apply the mask once a week to improve hair health!
