Autumn Touches for Your Apartment

The fall season comes at us fast and is over before we know it. It’s so easy to get caught up in school work and extracurriculars that we often forget to embrace the beauty and coziness that is autumn and really take advantage of the cheap and easy opportunities to amplify that coziness in our own apartments. By the time winter rolls around, you’ll be wishing you had taken the minimal time and effort to make the most of the fleeting fall season. VALLEY doesn’t want you to miss out on the bliss.

Cute and Creepy Decorations

Target is always one of the first places that puts you in the fall mood, considering the fact that their Halloween section appears seemingly out of nowhere the minute summer comes to a close. Walk around any Target in the months of September, October and November and you will be sure to find a plethora of cute decor for your apartment that takes a few dollars to buy and a couple of minutes to hang up in order to ensure maximum autumn spirit. If you want to stick to an even tighter budget (and let’s be real — most college students do), try to find a dollar store nearby and stock up on the posters and cute creatures that you can hang up on your walls. It’ll be a real hit with apartment visitors.

Candles and Scents

Nothing says autumn like the scent of pumpkin spice or cinnamon apples. But why should these smells be contained to your latte at Starbucks or the farmers’ market that you’ll never have time to get to? Go to any local HomeGoods store in the fall, and you will be sure to find tons of autumn-scented candles that will both fill your apartment with your favorite scents and create a cozy atmosphere for your marathon of the “Halloweentown” movies. If candles aren’t enough, try ordering a cheap pumpkin-scented room spray, like this one from Yankee CandleAgain, with minimal money and effort, you will be able to freshen up your apartment and make the space the envy of all of your friends.

DIY Autumnal Drinks

Sure, pumpkin-spiced drinks may be a convenient purchase at your nearby Starbucks, but we college students know better than anybody the necessity of balling on a budget. You can still get all of the cinnamon and pumpkin spice flavor that you need from your own apartment. Invest in some pumpkin spiced latte k-cups or buy your own chai tea mix in order to get the sweetness that you crave in your morning pick-me-up. Plus, making these drinks at home is bound to compliment your candles and room freshener and make your apartment the best-smelling place for miles.

31 Nights of Halloween

There can’t be a list of ways to amplify your fall season without including Freeform’s 31 Nights of Halloween. Freeform’s annual tradition to play Halloween-themed movies every night in October guarantees that there won’t be a day without access to something that will put you in the fall spirit. If you don’t have time to sit down and watch a full movie, then have it on in the background as you do your homework or catch up with friends. The best time to watch “Hocus Pocus” or “Nightmare Before Christmas” will be over before you know it, so make sure to take advantage of it while you can.

Don’t Forget to Relax

Of course, Halloweekends will be celebrated and fall-related events will pop up around campus during this time. But why not take advantage of all that autumn has to offer with these cheap and easy touches that are bound to increase spirits no matter what?
