The Return of Olivia Jade

Almost nine months after the initial news of the college admissions scandal, which is now one of the biggest scandals of 2019, Olivia Jade has made her return back to social media.

On Dec. 1, Olivia Jade Giannulli, the 20 year-old daughter of Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli, who are currently faced with multiple charges such as mail fraud and now federal programs bribery, posted a video titled “hi again” to her YouTube channel, stating she wants to “move on with her life.”

The influencer, along with her sister Isabelle Rose, has been absent from all forms of social media such as YouTube, Instagram and Twitter since February (except for the time she posted and then deleted a photo to Instagram of her giving the middle finger to the “media.”) The two minute video, where Giannulli addresses the future of her YouTube channel, is the first time she’s spoken up about her and her parents’ involvement in the college admissions scandal.

Throughout the video, Giannulli talks about her decision to return to YouTube despite being “legally not allowed to speak on anything going on right now.” Although she’s says she’s “terrified to make this video” and “wishes she could talk about all of this,” Giannulli said that her reasoning for returning to social media was due to her “passion” for creating YouTube videos and that “a huge part” of her is “just not the same.” She ended her quick video by thanking her fans and 1.95 million YouTube subscribers for their patience and for sticking around.

The recent upload was followed by Giannulli’s return to all social media apps such Instagram and Twitter. Since the video’s release, Giannulli has become active once again by posting Instagram photos and even telling her fans to “have a beautiful day.”

Despite disabling her Instagram comments to the public, many people have had different reactions to Giannulli’s return to YouTube and social media. Many people have taken to Twitter to state that her two minute video came from a place of power, entitlement and white privilege.

Some people have also expressed their opinion that Giannulli’s return is a way to return to her influencer lifestyle and to gain sponsorships. Others have alluded that all the positivity on her recent YouTube video is because negative comments are being deleted.
