SAG Awards Red Carpet Rundown

Stripes, sequins, and parrots— oh my! Valley has the full rundown of the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet looks.

The major theme of the night seemed to be color. There were lots of patterns and animal prints. The flashiest fashion choice of the evening was undoubtedly Nicole Kidman’s Gucci gown. While the emerald green sequins were striking against the actress’s porcelain skin, the effect was kind of overshadowed by the very realistic parrots who had taken over her shoulders.

Sticking with the realistic animal design motif, Thandie Newton’s glittery golden number with a futuristic one-shoulder strap was perfectly lovely aside from the herd of stallions galloping along the hem with a ferris wheel behind them and a swarm of Psycho-esque birds lurking from above.

Another notable trend of the evening was texture. Kaley Cuoco’s Marchesa blush pink gown was a three-dimensional explosion of criss-cross straps and confetti. Even Kate Hudson’s sleek black dress was rudely interrupted by what appeared to be an overgrown corsage that had escaped from her wrist and found its way to her hip. Diane Guerrero of “Orange is The New Black” looked like she was halfway through a quick change with gray tulle creeping around her waist. Best Actress winner Emma Stone had apparently just emerged from a catfight with her floral Alexander McQueen gown ripped across her body, exposing her black lace bustier.

Not all texture was bad texture, though. Rami Malek looked sharp in a dark gray Dior suit with red stitching. Claire Foy’s sheer black dress with flower detail and a pale pink peter pan collar was a surprising hit. Aside from two out-of-place black bows at her neck and waist, Taraji P. Henson was absolutely stunning in her ethereal glittery pink gown, complemented by soft-yet-edgy hair and makeup.

Geometric patterns also made a major appearance at this year’s SAG Awards red carpet. Mayim Bialik’s jewel toned block stripes made a bold statement on the carpet. Michelle Dockery stood tall in her Elie Saab dress with colorful vertical stripes. Michelle Williams shimmered under the spotlights in her Louis Vuitton metallic striped gown.

Some stars went for more classic glamour for the event. Mahershala Ali, who took home the SAG Award for Best Supporting Actor, wowed the crowd in a clean-cut white tuxedo. James Marsden also stood out in his classic black tuxedo. Natalie Portman was a ray of light in her cream maternity gown with voluminous sleeves.

The red carpet was full of truly daring, bold and beautiful looks. Which one would you wear?
