Big news for Ari fans! The 27-year-old pop star is set to join Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton and John Legend in one of the infamous spinning chairs for The Voice season 21.
Grande made an announcement via Instagram and Twitter last week and confirmed that she would be replacing former Voice coach Nick Jonas.
“Surprise!!! I am beyond thrilled, honored, excited to be joining @kellyclarkson @johnlegend @blakeshelton next season ~ season 21 of @nbcthevoice !” Wrote Grande in her Instagram caption. “@nickjonas we will miss you.”
In a statement to the press, Grande emphasized her excitement.
“I’m so honored and excited to join The Voice family! I have been a huge fan of the show for such a long time. I can’t wait to go head-to-head with the incredible coaches, get to know these new artists and help to take their craft to the next level.”
It seems like the [friendly] competition has already begun. Veteran coach Blake Shelton, who has been on the show for all 21 seasons, said on the Today Show that he’s not worried about the new addition.
“I’m not going to lie, we’re still going to beat the crap out of her on the show,” said Shelton. “That’s our job. They pay us to win — they don’t pay me to lose.”
Nonetheless, Shelton still claimed his admiration for Grande.
“There’s one chair on The Voice that seems like lately it’s turned into this revolving door of different coaches that we’re able to bring in. I’m excited about it. I’m a fan of hers.”
Kelly Clarkson and John Legend also commented on the new addition, with Legend congratulating Grande via Twitter.
“So excited to welcome Ariana to our Voicefamily!!” Wrote Legend, who has previously worked with Grande on the title track for the remake of Beauty and the Beast.
Kelly Clarkson welcomed Grande and emphasized her excitement about another female artist joining the chairs.
“Next season we are bringing y’all some powerful female energy!” Wrote Clarkson, ” Welcome to the @NBCTheVoice family @ArianaGrande“
Even Nick Jonas, who is sadly stepping away this season, commented on the replacement and shared his excitement for Grande.
“Congrats @ArianaGrande!” Wrote Jonas, “You’re going to kill it next season! Welcome to the family.”
