Signing Record Labels to Fashion Labels

Maison Christian Louboutin has signed Jaden Smith as the luxury brand’s first men’s creative director. As a 27-year-old rapper and actor, Smith is not the “traditional choice” for a fashion luxury brand being so young and of a different industry. This relationship has the power to change the way both Louboutin and Smith are seen in the eyes of their audiences.

The New Deal

Christian Louboutin was ready for a change in the company’s men’s collection. The men’s collection had been established around 15 years ago, but it had never had an official creative director, until now. Smith’s role will keep him busy by overseeing the creation of four collections annually, shaping a distinctive visual and emotional universe, creating campaigns and planning events. Smith’s first debut is expected in January 2026 for the Men’s Fall/Winter 2026 Paris Fashion Week.

“I felt that with his creative direction our men’s collection would evolve in an exciting and dynamic way. He feels like the perfect addition to our creative team and I am truly looking forward to having fun working with him on our men’s collections,” said Christian Louboutin in a statement on their website.

Smith did not get this deal simply by being a nepo baby, he did dabble in the world of fashion when he co-founded MSFTSrep with his sister Willow and other actors. MSFTSrep is a lifestyle and creative outlet that aims to inspire and empower its community. Smith is a naturally creative person which is what drew Louboutin towards him way back in 2019 when the two started meeting. The men’s line is small and is currently only 24% of the company’s collections. Louboutin hopes that with Smith’s creativity he will bring more visibility to the brand.

“Merging my vision with Christian’s comes quite naturally because we see the world in a very similar way. There’s a shared respect for creative freedom, and I think that’s why it works. I want to continue the story, honoring the past while shaping the future through my own perspective. It isn’t just a title — it’s a creative home. Christian has given me a place to explore, to learn, and to create freely. His legacy is built on hard work and joy, and I want to carry that forward,” said Smith in a statement on the Louboutin website.

Stepping Into the Unknown

Both Smith and Louboutin are walking the fine line between fashion and art. They both see how fashion goes beyond practicality and they appreciate the arts for its uniqueness and beauty. They are both taking risks by trusting each other with their own personal brand. The idea for expanding the men’s line is to bring together all generations of men that want to amp up their style.

The line is for parents and sons of all ages that want to come together in the light of fashion. However, Smith said he wanted to be representative of his audience and continue to show up for them, which may attract an audience Louboutin had not previously had. Louboutin feels that if you don’t take a risk in fashion, you risk being boring and diluting your brand.
