You’re not in middle school babe

As much as some of us may try to deny it, we are in college. High school is over — and so is middle school. We can start leaving all the tricks and games in the past and go through college as mature adults. The time for the games we used to play has expired. In case we forgot what a life without middle school games is like, let’s go through a refresher.

Put The Caps Lock Back On

While it might have been cool back in the day to turn your caps lock off, it’s immature now. You’re in college babe, we learned to start our sentences with capital letters way back in the day. Could you imagine texting your boss with your caps lock off? Embarrassing …

“He’s Mean To Me, He Must Like Me”

Nope. He just doesn’t like you. A harsh yet truthful reality. If he wanted to talk to you, he would. If he wanted to open your snaps, he would. And if he genuinely liked you, he would definitely not be mean to you. He would try to talk to you and be around you as much as he could. And in that time around you, he would be trying to show you his nicest, funniest self. He is not the bully you would have found on the middle school playground.

Respond At A Normal Speed

“Ok so he took five hours to respond, so I’ll double that and respond in 10. Or … should I just wait until tomorrow night after I do my makeup?” The waiting game is old. The truth is, he probably doesn’t even realize what you are doing, so it isn’t even making any sort of impact. Just because he was busy, it doesn’t mean you have to pretend to be. But at the same time, if you really do have nothing going on besides waiting for his response, take it as a sign to make yourself more busy. Your future self will thank you.

Communicate.

In middle school it may have been acceptable to hear all your gossip and drama through the messenger, but as college students we can just go straight to the source. We don’t need messengers and added people to relay messages to one another. Simply talking to your peers and using basic communication skills will get you far.

While it may be easy to fall back into the patterns and games we grew up with, the mature thing to do is set them aside and realize … You’re not in middle school babe.
