Have you ever seen a bag made up of 99% air? Scratch that. Have you ever seen anything that was made up of 99% air? Read on to learn more about one of Coperni’s newest accessories: the Air Swipe bag.
All About the Air Swipe Bag

Yep, you read it correctly. Coperni’s Air Swipe bag is made up of 99% air. And the other one percent? Well, that would be glass. You might be wondering, “How can a bag be made up of 99% air? How can it even hold anything?” The answer lies in the science.
The material that seems to hold the air together is a material that NASA uses called Aerogel, the world’s lightest solid. Aerogel is a type of nanomaterial that has silicon-based structures. These structures are so tiny that they appear invisible but can catch things like air. This is what gives the bag its cloudy or smoke-like feature. In fact, NASA uses Aerogel for “capturing stardust,” according to Coperni.
Made of NASA’s nanomaterial silica aerogel, the lightest solid on planet Earth, the Air Swipe bag is made of 99% pure nothing and 1% glass, the glass of the future. This very delicate (and non-fragile) nanomaterial has been used by NASA to capture stardust: because it can withstand extreme heat (1200o Celsius) and a pressure of 4000 times its weight. This Air Swipe bag is the biggest ever object made of this space technology nanomaterial.

What We Know
The Air Swipe bag, only weighing a total of 33 grams, has some astonishing and never-before-seen features. All that being said, here’s what we know about the Air Swipe bag:
- It’s mostly made up of air
- Aerogel “catches” the air and holds it together
- Glass surrounds the material (the air)
- It can withstand degrees more than 2,100° Fahrenheit and pressure 4,000 times its weight
Cost, Consciousness and More

While Coperni recently introduced the Air Swipe bag during Paris Fashion Week 2024, we don’t yet know how much the Air Swipe bag costs. This one-of-a-kind bag might remain just that: one of a kind. However, the Aerogel material is available to purchase online.
Because the Air Swipe bag is literally made out of air, this creates a whole new meaning to sustainable fashion. Luxury brands like Coperni are pushing the boundaries of science and fashion to create environmentally conscious and sustainable items, likely with more to come.
