It’s no secret people were playing as their own hairdressers by cutting and dyeing their own hair during quarantine after the beauty salons closed. For some, being their own hairdresser wasn’t their thing but once salons were opened, people began rushing to get the newest styles. Keeping that in mind, it’s no shock that people are ringing in the new year with a new them – hairstyle addition. Hairstyles from different decades have made their way back into our lives, especially 70s hair. Hair accessories have also made a comeback because what’s a better way to really express your new vibe than changing up your hair?
Check out some of VALLEY’s favorite hairstyles that have flowed into 2021.
The Mullet

Of course, the queen herself, Rihanna got this 80s styled cut and pulled it off flawlessly. Although this is not the typical “Billy Ray Cyrus mullet” her mullet is still full of texture with her hair flowing in the back and some baby bangs in the front. Besides, if anyone is pulling off this hairstyle, it is Rihanna.
Curtain Bangs
Tik Tok users all over are going crazy with this new trend going around. Curtain bangs sway off the face instead of the usual baby bangs over the forehead. These are the perfect way to add shape and volume and can be styled or left untouched.
The Modern Shag
Resembling the mullet, this cut is filled with layers and texture. The modern shag is a softer, quieter cut than the mullet but still has that movement. “I’m not good at hair styles; I’m not good at like – a really cute bubble braids or even just normal braids, so that’s why I got this haircut because it’s the most low maintenance, and I don’t really have to do anything to it,” says Youtube creator Olivia Rouyre. So, if you are looking for a new, fun cut that is easy to handle and you’re not scared of layers, this could be the one for you.
Blocks of blonde or chunky highlights

This hairstyle of dyeing big pieces blonde or another color is coming back from the 2000s but people aren’t going as harsh and crazy as they did back then.
Celebrities like Kylie Jenner with her chunky highlights, JLo and other influencers all over social media have been showing off their new hair.
Dyed hair could always be dyed back, so if you’re looking for a change, this option might be right up your alley!
