The Stories Within Your Closet

Every day, you reach into your closet and pick out an outfit. Whether it be the same sweat set you’ve worn all semester, or the new top you bought last week, your closet is used on a day-to-day basis. What most people don’t realize every time they reach into their closet, is the stories behind each item of clothing.

Your closet, quite literally, is a collection of you. A scrapbook. A collage of all of the memories, stories and phases of your life. Each piece comes together from a different place to form a representation of yourself.

Memories

The same way you can go through old photo albums to reminisce, your closet holds special memories that are often under-looked. To get a glimpse of the old elementary school days, wander into the depths of your closet to find those old Justice outfits.

Or, to remember your recent trip to Europe, take out your summer wardrobe to remember the good days in the sun. At the end of the day, clothes are attached to memories. What were you wearing when you had your first kiss? Our wardrobe is our modern day time capsule.

Self Reflection

Through the simple action of looking through your closet, a person can really reflect on their life and how far they have come. There are so many components of your life within the walls of your closet. It can be the top you got to try to impress a boy, or the micro shorts you bought to follow trends you didn’t even like.

Going through the styles of your closet displays how far you have come to curate your own unique style that is personal to you. It can allow you to realize that you may be stuck following trends you don’t even find all that cute. Are you a leader or a follower when it comes to fashion? All you really need to do to find out is take a deep dive into your closet.

Identity

More than just a reflection, your closet shows off your identity. Some pieces make you feel confident, while others are hidden in the top drawer of the dresser for a reason. Why is that? What makes certain pieces more wearable than others? What determines if you are confident in wearing that piece?

Certain pieces in a closet can show comfort- your go-to safety pieces, while others are saved for a special occasion. Understanding the pieces you reach for most helps you realize what your comfort or safety is in terms of fashion.

Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to tell someone!

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this matter to be actually something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
