As normal 21st-generation human beings, we’re always chasing the “next big thing.” We often get caught up in living for the weekends, pushing away the impending doom of Monday. There’s way more to your life than just Saturday and Sunday, but five more days you can fill with just as important memories.
As Shonda Rhimes, American television producer and screenwriter, says, “You can waste your lives drawing lines. Or you can live your life crossing them.” One way my roommates and I aim to cross lines is to assign holidays for different days of the week. This allows us to not count our days, but make the days count.
Movie Monday

Mondays are hard. It can be motivating to get through your day when you have something to look forward to. In apartment 622, we enjoy easing into our week with a simple movie night. Although, as different reality TV shows cycle through the year, we watch the episode for that week on Mondays. At the moment we are currently binging “The Bachelor” and, before this, “Love Island.” Gossiping about the show and giving our detailed opinions each episode is one of the many definitions of girlhood.
True Crime Tuesday

True crime might not be for all, but it is definitely for some. That some is us. ABC’s “20/20” is our national anthem in this apartment. When David Muir and Deborah Roberts anchor the screen, all other responsibilities get thrown out the window. For that next hour or so, we become investigative reporters ourselves. It might not be the most digestible show to watch right before bed, so we usually turn on something more lighthearted before catching our precious “z’s.”
Wine & Dine Wednesday

As college students, home-cooked meals become out of arms reach. We are who we eat with and doing what we call a “family dinner” once a week allows for more bonding time and creates that sense of home we all miss ever so dearly. From pasta dinners to personal pizzas, gathering around the table to recap our days and ending it with a (heavy) glass of wine is what I am going to miss most about living with my best friends.
Treat Yourself Thursday

While some roomies decide to participate in “Thirsty Thursday,” depending on the week, others decide to use this night as a form of self-care before we endure the busy weekend. Eye patches, face masks, freshly baked cookies and ordering our favorite take-out is at the center of these nights.
