“A Minecraft Movie” is the new viral sensation, with everyone rushing to the theaters to experience the cinematic fun. On April 4, 2025, “A Minecraft Movie” was released in theaters and since then the movie has been creating viral memes all over social media.
The movie has made about $550 million globally at the box office and is the highest-grossing film for an opening weekend for a video game adaptation. Although it has only received a 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, “A Minecraft Movie” has gained a lot of attention on social media because it is a viral video game and because of the famous memes online.
“A Minecraft Movie” Summary
Jason Momoa stars as Garett Garrison, Emma Myers as Natalie, Sebastian Eugene Hansen as Henry and Danielle Brooks as Dawn. The four get sucked into a portal they find in a mine and it leads them to the Overworld, which is the cubic world where they find Steve, who is played by Jack Black. Steve helps them find their way back home while coming across some unexpected quests along the way.
The Viral Memes
“A Minecraft Movie” has been very popular with teenagers who have played the video game growing up. Some fans were hesitant about whether or not they wanted to watch the movie because some had mixed feelings about Black playing Steve.
When the trailer came out, fans saw Black delivering his lines in his eccentric way, but fans started to hang on to the phrases that Black said during the trailer.
Some phrases that fans made into memes were “flint and steel,” “the nether,” “coming in hot,” “I am Steve,” “ender pearl” and the most viral one, “chicken jockey.”
“Chicken Jockey”
The “chicken jockey” memes have been so viral across social media that it caused uproar in the theaters. Fans rushed to the theaters right when the movie was released and celebrated hearing the line “chicken jockey” delivered by Black.
The theaters have been incredibly chaotic, with fans throwing popcorn in the air while cheering very loudly and people giving each other piggyback rides. In one theater, a fan brought in an actual live chicken to the movie, which caused a chaotic riot.
Some theaters have gotten so rowdy that the cops have had to be called in to escort everyone out of the movie. The videos of the meme started the viral trend on TikTok, which resulted in theaters being trashed after the movie.
