The college experience is filled with variety, as each of us works to reach our own final destination. During these four years, we, as students, have the ability to make this experience what we want it to be. We curate our daily lives in order to build the life we want and need. We have the chance to build our own world on campus and change the world outside of this temporary sphere.
In these four years, we confront different versions of ourselves and different possibilities of our lives. Yet, with these choices hanging before us, we have to decide who we want to be and how we want to instill necessary change in the world around us.

Voice Is A Powerful Thing
If we want there to be change, we have to enact it. Change doesn’t just appear, and it doesn’t always happen by chance. In deciding what we want to change, we also have to decide how we want to instill this change.
Change is a broad term — it doesn’t always apply to academics or politics. Change is a necessary part of our everyday lives, yet we are often reluctant to recognize it.
Every day, we wake up to a breaking news headline, watching the world as it is pulled in a direction we didn’t choose. At times, it may feel like we are just waiting for the next big thing to happen. Many of us believe that so much of life is decided by chance, our role in this world often feeling incidental.

Power Is In The Eye Of The Beholder
By choosing to see moments in our lives as things that just “happen,” we are moving away from our power to lead the life we want. It is at this point in our lives that we are experiencing so much growth and opportunity, but we may be overwhelmed to use this newness as a chance to take action.
People all around the world are choosing to build their reality, and we have the same chance to do so now. We are young, moldable, inexperienced and passionate, with powerful voices that are only growing louder. We can write stories of our experiences, send letters to the political figures who push the world in opposite directions or color bold letters on makeshift signs we hold at marches.
It can feel like there is no time, no power, to say what we want to say to the people we think won’t listen. Yet, as we continue to grow and learn, we are creating this time and ability to instill the change we need to live the lives we dream of.
